re: Sun Belt & Louisiana Tech Conference Realignment: Why The Bulldogs Could Be Departing CUSA

The Sun Belt and the AAC are about equal in perception now. The AAC gets more money through 2030 because the TV deal was signed before the recent AAC defections, and ESPN apparently didn’t lower the per school payout after those teams left. But the AAC and Sun Belt will probably be getting paid comparable money after 2030.

Man cmon. No g5 is prestigious, but even that were the case of being equal, why would a school like ECU go through the exit fee & all the BS to switch to an “equal conference”.

Higher ticket sales, increased attendance, and lower travel costs against in-conference slate of App State, Marshall, ODU, Coastal, and JMU. Also knowing Memphis and Tulane may be moving on, and with a better SBC TV deal on the horizon.
SBC is consistently top four conference in baseball, so I'm sure that's really attractive for their solid baseball program.

The AAC will poach from the Sun Belt East when the slots open. They hold the TV deal and the service academies.
Ticket sales and lowered travel costs won't offset a $5 million reduction in TV Revenue and $10+ million minimum in exit fees.

I see you keep claiming this. Of course, it's in LaTech's best interests for this to happen. To be determined.
The problem is there will be only two large market AAC departures, and thus two openings (I don't see a smaller conference going bigger than they need when the pie stays the same size). I would see AAC taking Georgia State first for the Atlanta market. Remaining eastern teams in the SBC are all smaller markets, except ODU. Even if AAC would offer ODU the second spot, it's not a no brainer like Texas State to MWC 2.0 (who is already on an island and moving for much better TV deal payout).

Because it is a money deal. The AAC has the media contract and the service academies. The Sun Belt media deal is much closer to CUSA than it is to the AAC.
As far as Tech's interest. We aren't relevant. We will eventually find a home probably in a similar manner to Texas State. The last option left at the dance.

Did I ever say that princess ? No The SBC is clearly in a better position now than CUSA. I simply asked a question that no one has answered. Why would ECU jump to a perceived lower conference than AAC.
Hey buddy boy, don't you princess me. You were obviously denigrating the Sunbelt and thought it was cute. It's exactly how every Tech person on this board acted for years...until suddenly they have no choices.

Texas state might suck at sports but it’s 4x bigger than tech which is why they are seen as remotely desirable

I know conferences talk about "markets", but where does Georgia State rank in the Atlanta market? Behind UGA, the Falcons the Braves, the Hawks, Ga. Tech?
How much of the Atlanta market does a conference get from Georgia State?

I wasn't comparing Louisiana Tech's credentials to Texas States. I was comparing Louisiana Tech eventually getting an invite to the AAC or SBC because they are the last viable candidate remaining. Similar to how Texas State is the last viable candidate available for the PAC.

I completely agree with your criticism/skepticism of "markets" when choosing who to invite to conferences. But it's what AAC has gone for.

That is if the Louisiana schools don’t pull a Mississippi vs Georgia tech trying to get back in the SEC

The internet is heating up on this topic. It appears Memphis has stepped up and leading the direction, not Texas State.
So I guess it is Memphis then the eastern SBC schools, then Tulane……then the AAC, then PAC12 then SBC to make moves.
Seems like a more sensible pecking order.
There is some crazy alignment theories out there - hold on tight G5ers

I am guessing that Louisiana Tech and Louisiana Lafayette are moving to AAC should Memphis make its move.
Tulane will follow Memphis on whatever P5 journey they take.
At some point, the SBC, AAC and CUSA need to make one large association and have regional pods.
I am guessing that Memphis is putting the waiting stress on Texas State - and rightfully so. If I am PAC12, I am securing Memphis and Tulane way before ever considering TSU.
The AAC western schools have deep ties to LaTech and I believe the Cajuns and rednecks have begun working together behind the scenes to broker a package deal - as should have been done decades ago.

Princess is about as rude and condescending as you can get. It's the truth that Tech thinks they're too good. It's also hilarious that now they're just hoping the Sunbelt lets them in.
