From reading local media in LC it’s clear that McNeese is jumping ship, it’s just a matter of where. The WAC seems like a good possibility and would have them rejoin the Texas schools that just jumped over there. They have also been rumored to be meeting with CUSA and the Sunbelt but I don’t know that either of those are realistic options.

What about the other LA Southland schools? Curious what SELA, Nicholls, Northwestern are planning to do whether it’s try to rebuild the conference or merge. Sad to see the league go but not sure it has a future.

Yeah it will be dead soon. McNeese and the legacy original Southland schools need to stay together

Need to get creative with alliances that make sense.

McNeese has no business in FBS.

I think a merger with another FCS conference is most likely. Don’t see any of the remaining schools having sufficient facilities to move up to FBS. My guess would be an Ohio Valley Conference merger.

Some of these schools with FBS aspirations aren’t helping. All this is going to do is speed up a P4/5 separation and we will be back at square 1.

Yeah and all the D2 schools are moving up to FCS to replace the teams that went to FBS.

1990-2005 was the golden era of FCS.

McNeese regularly played

Troy
App St
Marshall
Montana
Youngstown St
Boise St
Nevada
Central Florida
Western Kentucky

Yeah I grew up going to games and sitting on the hill because the stadium was full. 14 year old me was crushed when the 95 team lost to Marshall in the semifinals and then again in 97 when we lost to Youngstown in the title game. So many awesome games through the years.

Sad to think of them moving up to be just another bottom of the barrel FBS team. I don’t think McNeese has the resources to be competitive at that level.

Irony is the MVFC is still rated as a better conference than a lot if these G5 conferences. Massey has us ahead of a lot of them. Truth is when we go to a MAC school or something like that we expect to win. He'll, I expect a W against a lower P5.

Yet none of the MVFC schools are in these FBS talks because of location. Take the Dakotas and the Montanas as a core and build around it with UNI and some of the better BIg Sky schools and it is instantly better than most of the G5. Move the entire MVFC up and we're better than most the G5.

I was top young to remember those, but the 2002 playoff run was epic. Beating Montana State, Montana, and then Villanova only to lose to fricking Western Kentucky who we had beat 38-13 earlier in the season.

I was at that Montana game, and it was nuts. Montana was that team McNeese struggled with, but they got over the hump. Didn't go to the Villanova game because if was cold as shite and my mom didn't want to sit through that.

Shame to think what the program has become.

How many friggin schools are going to be in FBS when this is over with? This is getting absurd - some of these schools have no facilities yet are getting pushed up because of the almighty dollar, but honestly how many people are watching a UTSA vs Florida International game on a Saturday evening?

The almighty dollar won’t matter once P5 separates and stops playing most of those schools. Bottom of the barrel FCS will essentially be playing the same schools they always did, but in conferences with different names.

Talent-wise, it will be about the same as FCS too.

Sore subjects

95 team was the GOAT. Kerry Joseph was a beast. Go back and look at the results. They crushed everyone including a Dante Culpepper top 10 UCF team 49-3.

98 Youngstown where the TE dropped the TD for the win and 02 they slept walked in the NC game

It’s amazing they don’t have a title

They ought to consider moving down to DII. They are getting passed by schools like Houston Baptist and Incarnate Word in FCS and have no business with their facilities playing in FBS. The program overall is a shell of what it once was and has not progressed a bit outside of installing a turf field.

I would agree but I do think the president and AD are trying to make a big push to shed that image. They’ve had some really bad luck with the hurricanes and pandemic too

If you look at the recruiting it all turned when Lamar brought back football. McNeese used to own southeast Texas and now they only get a few players. Southwest Louisiana barely produces any talent so with their recruiting budget it’s been a struggle.

And the programs established at Houston Baptist, UTSA, and even UIW can’t help. McNeese may once have been on some kid’s radar along the Texas coast and Houston area, but I doubt it at this point.

100%. And Sam is now the “it” FCS and pulling 2/3 stars out of East TX.

I don’t think Frank Wilson is the answer

honestly the Southland and SWAC should merge…

There’s a reason the Texas teams left the Louisiana teams behind…

I remember being at the game in college station in 02(?) when McNeese had a 2 td lead into the third and Slade Nagle threw 4 second half INTs to blow it.
