Kinda crazy the Frankenstein's monster that CFB has turned into. Makes you yearn for the BCS days.

6 team playoff. Top two seeds get 1st round bye. Rankings based on BCS formula (not a playoff committee). If a G6 team wants to make playoff, they need to go undefeated and have high enough ranking based on OOC scheduling. They could rightfully squeeze in and supplant a P4 pretender scheduling cupcake OOC.

As it stands, the terrible playoff committee cares more about record than SOS for the G6 rep. That's why an undefeated G6 rep with a crap schedule with get bounced in every playoff game they make.

Bonus excitement: Lowest ranked power team from each power conference has to play highest ranked G6 team from a regionally paired G6 conference for promotion/relegation match (football only). If a football program gets relegated and can't make it back up the following year, all other programs are relegated.

Colege football is not college basketball. This going to create a ton of blowouts, especially in the first two rounds. Congrats to the 9-3/8-4 teams, you got blasted in round 1 of the playoffs instead of winning the Reliaquest Bowl.

I'm convinced college football now is just a giant experiment to see how much shite fans will eat before throwing in the towel.

The CFP is finalizing a deal with ESPN to purchase the additional games through the 2031 college football season

I thought one of the primary reasons the Big 10 started pushing 24 teams was to give their TV partners access to playoff games. ESPN has a monopoly on the current format.

The SEC was the lone holdout. I guess Sankey once again bent over for ESPN once ESPN was given exclusive access to the additional games.

This is awful...might as well just skip the regular season now because it doesn't matter anymore if 24 teams get in.

Only a handful of teams are capable of winning it any year (if even that many) i hate this

My guess is ratings will always be good for the playoff as its winter and a lot of people have nothing better to do. But, reg season ratings and attendance has to fall off.

frick this.

Go back to regional Power Conferences - Big 10, Pac 10, Big 12, SEC, ACC, maybe Big East, SWC?
Put reasonable limits on NIL and the Transfer Portal.
12 team playoff seeded by a formula that encourages strong OOC scheduling, or at least doesn't penalizing losing to another Power Conference opponent as harshly.

Once again this board grossly overestimates itself. Most fans won't really care that much and playoff expansion isn't really hurting the sport. FCS does the 24 team format just fine.

The larger problem aside from NIL is more so how selection is done and the fact that we still likely have minimal campus playoff games

Celebrating mediocrity. Wonder if Notre Dame will demand a rule if they are 8-4 or better they have to be selected?

I don’t know, I’ve seen exactly zero in favor of this. The playoff, then 12 was pretty split with some people, especially media types, liking it. Even the media thinks this is an awful move
