Someone finally walks the walk: Basketball 5 Star Makur Maker chooses Howard University

Maker chooses Howard
Searched and didn’t see posted
I think this will be great for college sports if athletes start giving HBCUs a fair shake. Opens the door for more OOC scheduling opportunities and start generating their own money for these dying schools instead of relying on bailouts.

Five-star senior Makur Maker announced his commitment to Howard on Friday morning, becoming the highest-ranked prospect to commit to a historically Black college or university since the ESPN recruiting database started in 2007.

Maker chose the Bison over UCLA, although Kentucky and Memphis were also on his final list of four.

The first and last time I will hear the name Makur Maker
Hope it was worth it

Doubt he ever makes it to campus. Most athletes won’t do it. Too much at stake

I mean good for him. Seems to be a young man of principle in that he is helping a university without a lot of publicity obviously gain a ton. It’s definitely a risk for him not going to one of the big boys.

That’s great for him and Howard.

I like it. Talks the talk and walks the walk. Good for him. If he is talented they will still find him

I mean good for you but I doubt this will be a trend. Many of them are shite holes with really poor facilities

Hopefully he sticks by this and makes it to campus.

Now they need to find him teammates
And from what I think, Howard has money more like your average mid-major. They’re not struggling like most of the SWAC is

That’s awesome, I love to see star athletes go to smaller schools. Steph at Davidson, Larry Bird at Indiana State, they are fun to watch dominate. And good for him for not just talking about equality but literally putting his money and future where his mouth is

Well done sir

Aren't HBCU lower academically as well than most other places?
Posted on 7/3/20 at 8:25 am to PhillyTiger90
I really have no opinion in this whatsoever. My opinion can be summed up as “okay”.

I have a comment and a question to this post
Comment: like all smaller universities some HBCU’s have great academics and some do not
Question: Why are you asking this question? Would you be asking the same question if he had picked LSU over Penn State and Northwestern?
