re: So much racism/prejudice expressed in the Laettner documentary

Yea ESPN really doesn't give a frick anymore. They're the guiltiest of the white guilters and have long since given up any effort to hide their slant. From their programming to them hiring garbage arse on-air personalities just because they're black. I thought the show was interesting and pretty accurate, despite it being overtly racist. I too hated Latners white bread arse and loved the Fab 5. For a lot of the reasons they listed.

Lets look at it another way... Laettner BEAT the mostly black UNLV in 1991 and then he beat SHAQ twice.. Then beat the Fab Five in 1992... As the show said... Being black and thuggish during that time has the cool thing to be... Think about it...
He was MONEY all the time.....

Do you have a point? I know who he beat. I was watching every single one of those games. I know he was money. I still didn't like him. Which was my point.

I didn't like him because he was a white kid with an awful Midwestern accent.

Midwestern accent? Laetner was from New York.

When I was a kid, I played this black kid one on one. I dominated him and after the game he couldn't handle it and grabbed me by my shoulders and started kneeing me in the stomach while calling me white boy.
That's the only time I've been beat up and it caught me completely by surprise.

Ding Ding Ding.

He was a near 7 footer that could glide the court with anyone in college, he was dirty and broke the mold of white players during that era. He wasn't a specialist, he was a freak athlete who wasn't afraid of anyone and could talk shite more than most if not all. I thought they handled the race issue perfectly in the show and he truly was the anti unlv, fab five media sensations.

Look at the most notorious college players and 95% of them are white, for whatever reason.
how many of that 95% played for Duke, a program which a lot of commentators made seem like all that was right with college hoops? got kinda annoying at times, and I was a pretty big Duke fan.
and how many times did a good-great white player get ascribed all these traits that made him seem like the little engine that could (hard worker, coach on the floor, etc)? hell, every so often we have those threads where everyone jokes about that in their replies. some people laughed that stuff off, lotta ppl hated it.

The 800 lb. gorilla in the room is the fact that the black community as a collective is the most racist group in the US, by far. The more they fail to be equal in commerce or education, the more racist they have become, even more reliant upon liberal "progressiveness" in the white community to make gains by any means. And, in athletics we have a different story, driven beyond reality by the media.
Whites are passed over these days for opportunities in football and basketball because of a sense that blacks are superior athletes. This has blown up to the extent that it has swung popular opinion and thus respresentation in those sports, beyond the realities of actual talent. Yet, there is no media clamoring for opportunities for whites.
Baseball experienced a generation when blacks were drafted beyond where the collective's actual talent should have been represented. Reality finally caught up to baseball this generation and the opportunity trend has normalized. And the media of course cries foul, and demands that the MLB blow money on urban academies etc.
Meanwhile, BYU and Stanford will continue to defy mental gravity in the media.

Strange way to approach this. Did people really hate Laettner because he was a good white player who was confident?
He was a good looking douchebag who won, plain and simple. The villain isn't supposed to win.
The fact that he was white was a novelty. There are plenty of black douchebags that people hate. They're just mostly in the NBA.

oh, and let us never forget Laettner's mom and her neckbrace.
surprised I couldn't find another pic of this, but this blog post details it pretty well LINK
About time someone brought up that neckbrace

Kraft, Marshall Henderson, Hansbrough. Fans always heckle the opposing team's white guy the hardest. Duke did it too with Steve Blake and Nik Caner-Medley.
It's an easy way of being vicious with no real risk, unless you taunt Steve Kerr.

Black people feel about white basketball players the way a lot white people feel about black golfers. "You couldnt even let us have BASKETBALL/GOLF!!!"

In Duke's defense, Nik Caner-Medley is a complete piece of shite. Even Maryland fans hate him. I don't really remember Blake getting it that bad. Dixon was the lightning rod of those Terp teams.
Though I'd argue Greivis Vasquez was more hated, but that was mainly for the way he taunted the Crazies. Which I loved dearly.
And while Laettner was certainly despised, as was Reddick, 'ol Wrinkly Head was pretty detested by the denizens of Cole. Battier was destestable, and pretty much the classic Duke Flopper. Man, I hated that guy.
