I think I’m in the same boat but just barely on the opposite side as you.

My first instinct was “oh here we go again” with the media diving head first to save a Simone Biles, Bubba Wallace, that tennis girl who quit, etc bologna. I don’t know the chronology there but I do know by the time Simone was quitting right before the Olympics I was tired of hearing the media put on a full front sticking up for this shite.

I think I did a fine job sitting back and trying to learn about Simone’s issues and not blindly condemning her(as so many assholes did). But shite man, it’s getting hard.

It’s terrible when people on the right gang up and attack an individual like Simone. Like it’s her job to put on the red white and blue and satisfy anyone’s patriotism She represented herself and our country as well as one could ever hope.

But shite, it’s also hard to see how the media treated it and not join the other corner out of principal.

I'm just trying to take a guess on how this came about. Maybe you're right. Perhaps it was her idea and hers alone. I don't know.

At the Olympics? Yes. That is 100% her job. She was selected to represent the United States of America at the biggest international competition in the world. That means she is there not representing herself, but the 330 million people who live in the United States.

I realize in this era of "me" we seem to have forgotten that, but there's an excellent scene in the 2004 movie Miracle where Kurt Russell's Herb Brooks drives that point home to his team at the 1980 Winter Olympics.

What it comes down to is this, as Paul Joseph Watson put it some two years ago, we shouldn't lionize people as heroes for failing at the one thing they are supposed to be professionally trained for - handling pressure.

it would hurt her scores which hurts the team

Biles already had plenty of medals at this time, there's no reason to truly suspect that she quit or wasn't mentally prepared. Twisties are real, and if she knows she's not herself enough to perform to her abilities then that hurts Team USA to go out there and be selfish and try. Pulling out was probably one of the hardest things she's ever had to do. I'm not suggesting we all wear "Back Biles" shirts or any shite like that, but the hate she got here for not wanting to risk injury or her teams score at the freaking OLYMPICS is crazy, especially after she's done it before.

So you clearly don't follow gymnastics. This is a legit thing. It's similar to someone the yips in golfing, it gets in your head.

Not sure why someone would hate on her for this, she is one of the best Olympic athletes of all time and she did the right thing in bowing out because she would have been hurting the team if she did try to keep going.

Let's all be real here.

If this was Livvy instead of Biles, everyone that is shitting on Biles would be bending over backwards to defend Livvy... after all, she's white, hot and has been co-opted as a symbol against cancel culture because of that one time.

You know there were people that could and did fill in for her (alternates). So if she would have retired after 2016, would that have changed your opinion?

Oh, so we’re using made up words by professional writers now to drive our point home.

And then she couldn’t compete when the pressure got to big.

Winning 1 gold medal is a big deal, winning 4 is incredible. I think she has shown many times she does well under pressure. She may not have this last time but she’s done it 4 other times which is pretty remarkable, especially to someone like you sitting on the couch with cheese sauce dripped all over the shirt your mom just bought you

Biles doesn’t need white liberals coming in to defend her from evil white people dude, she’s ok. We get it, you aren’t “racist” It’s just gymnastics

The craziest thing in all of this is that Bikes is 26 and still a world class/medal contender type after not competing for 2+ yrs.

At that age, most Olympic gymnasts have been retired for 5-10 yrs and wouldn't be able to get close to a US Olympic roster spot... And probably wouldnt want to, either.

Wouldn't be my first time I'm a fan of Biles, enjoyed watching her compete. Amazing how good she is. Wife and oldest daughter (no pics) both use to do gymnastics and are big fans of her.

I said the same thing last night a page or two back, I just didn't bring up the fact that Simone was black b/c we both know how that would have went.

She originally talked about the pressure of the moment and being in the spotlight becoming too great for her.

She was already a 4X gold medalist including winning the all-around individually.

She obviously dealt with the pressure well enough in 2016. Something happened either mentally, or as someone said with her Adderall usage, that made her shrivel since she had already shown the ability to deal with immense pressure

Somehow people are forgetting that she is one of the greatest Olympic athletes ever. Certainly the greatest gymnast of all time. She has carried USA to Golds numerous times but for some reason she doesn't get a pass because she did the right thing by stepping aside last time. She

deserved to be on that team more than anybody on there, but at the start she got the yips and couldn't perform to the best of her abilities. She didn't go in with the plan of stepping aside. She tried and didn't have it. There is seriously nothing wrong with what she did. Who cares if she chalked it up to mental health. If she never competes for the US again her legacy swill be that she is the greatest Olympic gymnast ever. Any gymnast fan knows that, bozos that know nothing about the sport will only remember her stepping aside last go around.
