Should the FBS stop playing the FCS?

Obviously both sides would prefer to keep playing. The FBS programs want their tune-up game and the payday is beneficial to the FCS programs. I know that if the two divisions didn’t play, we never would have witnessed Appalachian State - Michigan or any of the other great upsets, but is it worth it?

The vast majority of these games are pointless and boring. What do you really gain by kicking the shite out of Howard 79-0? What is the point of Alabama playing Western Carolina?

I’m aware that Tulane plays Missouri State this weekend.

Don't stop playing just make everyone have keep them within the first 3 weeks of the season.. As like a pre season game..

I wish they would stop it. I know its good for LSU to be able to play a gimme game after last weeks tough game, but we could still schedule a FBS team.

Look at Idaho, UConn, Umass, Rutgers and basically any Sun Belt or C-USA team.

At the very least the Power 5 conferences should stop playing FCS schools.

It's a significant advantage to play your cupcakes spaced out.

I played ball and graduated from South Dakota. Last weekend we got crushed by Oklahoma 70-14. But the year before we almost beat Kansas State and we have beaten Minnesota and Bowling Green (G5 but still FBS). We have future games scheduled with KSU, Iowa State, and a few other Big 12 schools. I have no doubt we will beat one of them inside the next 5 years.

That said, I think these games should only be played inside the first 3 weeks if the season and only one FCS v FBS matchup per school. It's a great experience getting to test yourself against the best in the country even if you will probably get beat, because sometimes you win.

Really? That's pretty weak. UF could easily schedule G5 or P5.

honestly, I'd prefer to see the Spring Games be scrimmages against an FCS school. Charge for the tickets which gives the FBS school an extra home game during the calendar year, give the FCS school some of the proceeds, and give the fans a "real" game during the spring. but with this, I would ban games against FCS schools during the season.

No. Just limit them to 1 a year and first 3 weeks of the season. Most of these small programs fund their seasons off of these games.

I don’t really think it’s a huge issue. It’s a great opportunity for the FCS players.

Many FCS schools have knocked off FBS schools within the last decade or so. It’s not THAT rare. I also like the idea of giving a paycheck to some schools that really need it for their athletic department.

With that said, I think the depth of the FCS is pretty bad. The top tier schools seem to be less fluid than in the FBS. If you take North Dakota State and stack them up against P5 schools, they can get some wins. The bottom of the FCS is pretty terrible. When those schools get a crack at a P5, it can be a disaster.

And why lump the whole FBS together? Do you think Sun Belt schools are lining up to play Bama, Clemson, etc? They will play FCS schools also.
