Look at the numbers bro and IIRC he led both teams in several statistical categories that controversial World Series in addition to CONTINUING to hold Indians and White Sox team records for triples in a season and career batting average, had a stellar reputation as an outfielder as well

Pretty much. But also to keep heat off the other ball clubs.

The owners didn't give carte blanche to Landis to punish the Sox because they were stalwarts of integrity. An outward display of resistance against corruption protected their own interests.

Too many forget Landis wasn't the commissioner when the scandal occurred and didn't ban the Sox players until nearly 2 years later, after they were acquitted.

Interesting tidbit about the 1919 Sox, is that the two starters that were not indicted (Schalk and Collins) are both in the HOF.

Eight Men Out is based on a non-fiction book. The movie is fun, the book is excellent, and really gets into the details of the Series.

Jackson took the money, and he threw games. The gamblers then tried to double cross the players, so the players tried to win a few games as well. In those double cross games, Jackson was awesome. He also hit a solo home run late in a game in which the Sox were already losing by something like 10 runs.

Buck Weaver really is the guy who got screwed, though he wasn't a Hall of Famer (took no money, played his best, but he knew about the fix and didn't say anything). And Eddie Cicotte probably had a Hall of Fame case, but he definitely tanked, and he tanked hard. Though Buck Weaver made a great point that Eddie Collins, who was clean, played like dog crap in the Series.

But being banned has been GREAT for Joe Jackson's legacy. It's the only reason you know who he is, while you have no idea who Dan Brouthers or Nap Lajoie are.
