If I was a Celtics fan though I would be worried as hell that a Private Equity Bro is taking over. He isn't going to want to pay massive Lux Tax bills and will want to maximize profit, because that is the Private Equity mindset
The new owner grew up in Massachusetts and is a lifelong Celtics fan.
The Cs are in good hands.

when has a sports franchise sold for only a few hundred thousand more than paid for?

They were purchased for about 300 mill in 2003.
22 years later sold for 6.1 bill
That is a pretty good return

Almost all minority owners of the Cs during the Wyc Grousbeck era are private equity investors. Most of them are with Bain Capital.

The NBA bought the Hornets for $318 mil in 2010
The Bensons bought the Hornets for $338 mil in 2012
Since that time 6 NBA franchises were purchased:
2014 Clippers purchased for $2 Billion
2017 Rockets purchased for $2.2 Billion
2019 Nets purchased for $2.4 Billion
2023 Bucks purchased for $3.5 Billion
2023 Suns purchased for $4 Billion
2025 Celtics purchased for $6.1 Billion
I have to imagine the Pelicans are now worth at least $1.5 Billion...but it is insane to me to think that the Celtics were purchased for more than the Redskins. I never thought a big market NFL team would be worth less than any NBA team.
Looking at Forbes valuations from last year, the Celtics were valued at $5.5 Billion so it isn't a massive overpay (unlike Balmer who purchased the Clippers for $2 B when Forbes valued them at $700 M[But the Clippers are worth over $4B now so good investment])

Cowboys must now be worth about $15-20b.
If Jerry put it up for sale he would get at least that

How are the clippers worth so much?? What factors go into this amount???

It is actually 4.7 in 2023 and 5.5. in 2024. I underestimated them.
According to Forbes:
353 Million anual revenue
low debt
high value media partners
new stadium
Total breakdown:
NBA Value - 2.3B
LA Market - 1.7 B
Stadium Value - .75B
Clippers Brand - .65B

Celtics make $121 million a year in operating income per Forbes. That's a payout of 41 years with 1% inflation per year. Very risky purchase if the bubble bursts, which it should. Billion dollar teams should be limited to the select few. Celtics should be one of them, but not 6+. That's ludicrous.

Can’t wait to see what kind of “new owner syndrome” moves this guy makes
Ishbia or whatever his name is has basically ruined the Suns for the next 5 years minimum

In 10 years?
Sports are the only content that guarantees live viewers in the age of streaming. Why do you think the "bubble bursts"?

And these owners arent only making money on the "Celtics" naskwrball team
The Celtics make a shite ton more than 141 million in profit through other avenues

It is nothing short of incredible how royally fricked that organization currently is when they were in the Finals in ‘21 and won 64 games in ‘22.
The Durant trade had not aged well, but I still don’t really blame them for doing it even if it was an overpay. The Beal trade tho was a disaster in real time and somehow it’s been even worse
The dumbest thing to me is Phoenix didn’t even give the KD/Booker a full season together before they went after Beal. I think they played like 20 games together regular season + playoffs combined lol. Instead of complimenting them with role players and defense, they trade for the one guy besides Lebron with a NTC, who is a chucker on a losing team and doesn’t play defense
