The thing about it all to me is, when he made the 48 yarder at 2:48 he barely got it over the crossbar. He miskicked the shite out of it.

I couldn't believe he was settling for that long of a FG when he looked so bad from 48 just minutes ago.

Everyone thinks even College kickers can routinely hit 50 yarders..Colleges have been trotting out guys for close to 60 yards..."oh he has the leg." Nevermind the pressure.

Ohio State of all teams should have a guy who can hit from that distance. The portal and NIL make it so elite teams never have to have such holes again

If that many kids existed, they'd be on college teams making those kicks.

They had plenty of time to pick up 10 or 15 more and put the kicker in a better situation.

Five or six would probably have been enough.

my housemate had money on the buckeyes to win outright. she was so sure he would make it "guys hit from 62 in nfl". I said, he's going to choke.

LOL.

High school kickers chart at 52 and 56 yards at every camp. Those are standard distances. Scholarship kickers shouldn’t have to overkick to make a 52…that’s just fact.

When I was 13 in 1995 I watched our high school kicker outdoors hit from over 50 to win a game as clock struck 0. Dont tell me D1 kickers today shouldnt regularly do this in a dome.

This is probably a product of coaches and trashy fans acting like kicking isnt vital to the game.

After Georgia called the TO they panned over to the kicker and you could tell by his face he was scared shitless

Exactly, and if you watched the overhead camera view (which is superior to the traditional view to see the true field of play) he made this one little sawed off nervous practice kick, dead give away he was going to crack.

Should have hidden some beta blockers in his jock.

I would do it with Michigans kicker and the likelihood of JJ screwing up but Stroud was playing the game of his life Day took the ball out of his hands

Did you remember they got the ball with only 50 seconds remaining. They were always gonna have to kick a field goal to win the game.

The kick being 50 yards wasn't the issue. The issue was the kicked kicked it 50 yards to the left of the goal posts.

National Championship berth on the line compared to a kicking camp.

That's gold!

Your awareness is astounding.

The 3rd down pass had only 2 routes with max protect and they still almost gave up a sack.

And yet, literally all of the college stats say they're quite difficult to make.

No pressure when your national ranking and future are on the line. It’s an unreal amount if pressure, not quite the same…but a cooker none the less. It’s a permanent record as well.

It’s a difficult task, just something you’re expected to do at that level.

Yeah, in watching the replay, you could tell he was at the extent of his range with that 48. On top of that, you know as a kicker UGA has been know to block a few kicks, so you need to kick it high enough initially to avoid that. He just overcompensated and missed the sweet spot.

OK, I just watched a camp of the best kids in high school and made kicks there were judged as 1 (make), 2 (good kick, not the best) and 3 (dead nuts)…14 kicks with 6 of them 48-56…a score of 42 won the freshman and sophomore. Many of those young kids made every 50+. A 58 yard kick won the competition of the top 8 charters.

Next weekend is the national ranking camp…a miss from 52 or 56 will cost you big time. They chart 1 or 0. Most kids will record all makes from those distances. These are the absolute best kids in the country…but they make these kicks under pressure.
