Seeing a 1.6 overnight rating for FIFA World Cup opener on Thursday from 11:00am-1:00pm ET (Russia-Saudi Arabia). 4 years ago, 3.4 overnight on ESPN for Brazil-Croatia (better 4pm time slot). 8 years ago, in 10am time slot, ESPN got 2.3 for South Africa-Mexico opener

US citizens aren't watching the World Cup when the US isn't in it?

Shocking.

If America isn't in the Cup, the vast majority of people here aren't going to pay attention at all to any match.

maybe because one game had Mexico and the other had Saudi Arabia and Russia.... also considering the US isn't in it has probably not sparked any interest.

Im not defending soccer or even really like it.. but this is stupid

Mexico will get far better rating than Russia or Saudi Arabia. Brazil/Croatia was a better time slot.

Add in that the US isn't participating and the hype is missing here...there you are.

The Spain/Portugal match today will get some eyeballs, but not many.

More people are going to watch the US Open this weekend.

Yeah, because the average US soccer fan was super pumped about a Russia/Saudi Arabia opener just as much as watching Brazil or hate watching Mexico

Show me the ratings for the Spain/Portugal match later today.

that Egypt - Uruguay game was fire. Spain - Portugal at 1 is gonna be a dogfight as well.

but i dont own any broadcasting rights or stock so idgaf if it only gets 3 viewers

companies making decisions over what draws overnight ratings is what leads to ESPN spending millions on shows like Get Up! and losing the rights to broadcast world cup and the us open

To be fair I get your point; people on this board have been saying for years how popular soccer is becoming. shite, we won’t dont need the soccer board for another 4 years,

Seems like this is the first ratings thread since game 1 or 2 of the nba finals. Why no thread on game 3 or 4?

why? world cup 2026 rights were included in that deal and the US just won the bid to host it. they are gonna make a killing off that

Well the US isn't in it.

LSU fans don't gush over Omaha when we don't make it. How many threads about the CWS are on the Tiger Rant?

It really was, wish Salah would've been able to come on, Egypt probably could've walked away with a point.
