US citizens aren't watching the World Cup when the US isn't in it?

Shocking.

Also, Fox's soccer coverage is dreadful and nobody watches FS1.

To be fair, this morning's match was on FS1, but the Russia/Saudi Arabia opener in question was on Fox

The other 2 games didn't have the USA playing

One had the most popular team in the world at a better time slot. The other had the US’s biggest rival and every Mexican immigrant watching that shite.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more ridiculous ratings comparison.

WTF kind of comparision is Russia/Saudi Arabia compared to Brazil playing against Croatia?

I mean one is 2 teams who suck against 2 usually good squads.

Russia/Saudi Arabia is the worst matchup of those 3, and it's a bad time slot.

Wait you means Russia and Saudi Arabia did not make a dent in America but games with Mexico and Brazil did... I'm shocked... shocked... that the millions of people in the US from South America viewed games from areas of where they are from and two teams no one cared about struggled.

This is all that needs to be said. Brazil and Croatia is a battle of two top 10 teams. Russia and Saudi Arabia are the two worst rated teams in the World Cup according to the computer rankings.

A lot of variables in those TV rating comparisons (US isn't even competing in the World Cup this year, participants in the games are different, the time slot differences, etc.). Obviously soccer isn't in the top 3 of most popular spectator sports in the US but if you are trying to suggest that it is LESS popular than it was 4 years ago in the US, there is a lot of evidence to the contrary.

Yea, OP wants to make assumptions from a 10am, Thursday match between one mediocre team and one sub-par team.

Seems like this is the first ratings thread since game 1 or 2 of the nba finals. Why no thread on game 3 or 4?

Games 3 and 4 were still very highly rated.

quote:

NBA Finals Viewership:

- ABC averaged 17,648,000 viewers, up 10% from ABC's historical NBA Finals average despite seeing the first sweep in more than a decade

- This year's viewership is up 90% from the last NBA Finals sweep (2007), which averaged 9,292,000 viewers

The 2018 #NBAFinals on @ABCNetwork averaged a strong 12.2 metered market rating for the Golden State Warriors four-game sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers, up seven percent from the historical ABC average.

Brazil is one of the best teams in the world. There is a significant population of people of Mexican heritage in the US.

Russia-Saudi Arabia

Neither of those teams draw. But I agree, soccer won’t take over football any time soon.

maybe because one game had Mexico and the other had Saudi Arabia and Russia.... also considering the US isn't in it has probably not sparked any interest.

Im not defending soccer or even really like it.. but this is stupid

Yeah.

I don't think anyone thinks that soccer will overtake football but that is a terrible comparison. A better one will be to compare the Mexico-SA game to the Mexico-Germany game Sunday.

The U.S. could compete in lawn darts and I’d watch it.

I watch the U.S. in the World Cup and I hate soccer.

I’m sure most people who watch aren’t soccer fans. So it’s not surprising the ratings suck this year if the U.S. isn’t in it.

Also, there are two kinds of soccer fans in the U.S.:

A) A small minority who are actually soccer fans. Many foreigners are included in that number.

B) And people who are only “fans” of soccer because they think it makes them seem cultured, worldly, and different from most people in the U.S.

I'd like to see what Spain and Portugal draw
