MLS will never work as a legit league for producing American talent, or be seen as anything other than a retirement league for foreign superstars because it’s tried to copy the format of the NFL/NBA

Now this is a horrible take.

I’ll be the first to admit that i follow European soccer much more than MLS, and could only be considered a causual MLS fan at best, but FC Cincinnati is my “local” team so I’m excited about their entry into the League. I will be paying much closer attention in the future. Until now, the closest team to me was the Crew (yuck).

I realize that I was wrong about the homegrown players taking a front seat to the draft. I knew of certain clubs having academies, but didnt realize that was becoming the norm for actually getting players.

Realistically though, how is the league supposed to compete with Europe in the case of young, phenom talent when they cant pay their players anything near what they could be earning over there? What could the MLS do to keep players from going to Spain, Germany or England, the way that all the best foreign athletes come here to play in the NBA/NHL/MLB?

Nothing? We can't offer UEFA champions league.

You also don't seem to have a good grasp of the salary/cap issue.

And a growing number of MLS teams are having a second team in USL, giving their academy players chances to get professional minutes at an earlier age. A lot has changed in 10 years.

Dallas is expected to start their USL team next year. Atlanta, LA Galaxy, NYRB, Portland, RSL, Seattle, Toronto, and SKC have one as of this season. Orlando's team is taking a year off and will join USL2 next season.

Don't give a shite since the US isn't in it. But I'll watch every second of next Wednesday's 5 Stripes match.

No one is going to watch these games if Wendy William show is on. Nearly 20 Fox affiliates will no longer be showing the World Cup, they can get better ratings with infomericals.

19 Fox affiliates in the U.S. do not have #WorldCupFever, have elected to air local news, infomercials, or Wendy Williams instead of live network coverage from Russia.

Only 19 affiliates nationwide? Probably also in locations such as rural Louisiana and Alabama where interest is already near zero.

I believe that is only a tweet about the opening ceremonies or the pre match studio show.

Attendance will be historic when it comes back to US

Do you get more excitement when the US scores in a match or when your favorite NFL teams scores a touchdown?

That's nearly 10% of their affiliates, that really surprised me. Not sure where all 19 are located, but Cincinnati, Memphis, Las Vegas, and Louisville were some that opted out of the opening ceremonies. It was Augusta, that aired Wendy Williams instead.

It's not a big deal. I am a huge fan and have never watched the opening ceremonies in my life. And I have watched 10+ games in every Cup since 1994.

I feel bad for anyone who didnt watch Portugal/Spain today. That was incredible. Better than anything the NBA Finals gave us this year.

Best game I’ve seen all year.. My neighbor took his two kids to the WC.
Hope he had tickets this game.
