yall are assuming that adding teams will ONLY split up the current revenue. You dont think ESPN or CBS would restructure the current deal to add more years??

this is the thinking - whatever changes go down will cause restructuring of television deals. Whether that's just for the PAC and Big 10 - or if that ends up including the SEC and other conferences as well

If the BCS would get rid of the "only 2 teams from each conference can play in the BCS" I could totally see how expanding would benefit the conference

the Big 10 revenues are now showing the opposite

tv revenues

and the big10 region loves football

in the top 20 i think there are more SEC teams. i could be wrong

this is potentially bad for the SEC if the pac16 forms

the big10 has its shite set

the pac10's tv deals are running out...the same with the big12. that's why this merger is being floated. there wont' be a renegotiation

if the pac16 and big10 expansions happen, the BCS will have to be re-worked

there will only be 5 BCS conferences and 1 will have twice the teams as another

I'm not an expert but the thinking seems to be there would be a renegotiation - because the value of teh product would have substantially changed

so if the BCS gets reworked. Expanding would be huge. More teams playing in BCS games = more money for the conference, potentially off setting having to split up the current revenue. Also, it would appear that the tv contracts would be reworked. I dont see how this would hurt the SEC if it expanded.

It seems like there would be some sort of clause in the contract to protect the SEC in the event of an expansion or reduction in members

the bcs and/or playoffs wouldn't hurt the SEC IMO

What presents a threat is the possibility that Big 10 and PAC revenues could outpace SEC revenues over the next decade - that would mean a long term competitive disadvantage

Maybe; depending on the Pac10 model. Advertisers are guaranteed ratings. If broadcasters can't deliver the GRP's they have to provide free slots and broadcasters HATE that.

BCS money isn't that huge once it gets split up over a conference

we just signed the deal, and i'm worried if the pac16 forms, ESPN may want to go with them. then the SEC would be FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKED

why would ESPN agree to that?

They signed the SEC because they were signing up the most important/successful conference in football.

I don't think they'd have an out under normal circumstances but if something happened like Florida, Alabama, and LSU left teh conference it wouldn't be the same product. And if they added major schools of national interest (e.g. A&M, Miami) that would also affect the product value (in the opposite way of course)

that's why the pac16 wants t cable network, so that cable systems are the primary source of income

SEC + 4 >>>>>>> Pac 16

word is that it would be a fox-based network like the BTN is

obviously they would also have an ESPN deal but it wouldn't be like the SEC deal

They can have multiple revenue streams...Subscription revenue, cable ad revenue, and broadcast TV revenue. The Pac10 studied the Big10 model and the SEC model. You know they'll use that info to build theirs.

With all the speculation about other conferences, SEC fans should not lose sight they'll be eating steak for a long time and steak is good. On the other hand, whatever is left of the Big XII will be dining on Hamburger Helper.

they'd split up our money 1 more way, which decreases revenue for the 12 current teams. bad for the SEC

Adding a team like Miami would increase revenue far more then the amount you lose by having another team to divide for. This isn't adding a Kentucky or Vandy to the football schedule, this is adding a Florida. All of their games would be televised.
