agree

midwesterners and southerners who have some interest in the Big 12 teams that joined the PAC would buy in, and West Coasters who are transplants will also buy in.

Even with a low % of interest it's better to be 3rd, 4th, or 5th most popular sport in a really big pond than the 1st or 2nd most popular sport in a much smaller pond

If the SEC could figure out a way to add Texas or OU they would do that in a New York second. I think they'd also take a very hard look at TAMU.

If the Big-12 implodes and we don't get some combination of those three, then SEC has the stroke to sit back and scoop up whoever they want from the ACC, if they want anyone. My guess is that they'd consider Va Tech, Miami, UNC, FSU, Clemson, Ga. Tech...

texas wants to dictate what everyone does and how everything is run, they'd never go to the sec. OU either.

GT would add the Atlanta market no?

atlanta doesn't have a single market (transplant city), and we already have the #1 school in GA in our conference

Huge market down here

and? markets don't really mean anything to the SEC currently b/c we already have a deal struck

SFP, respectfully, A&M brings some of that Texas (state) TV market. There are 22M people within 180 miles of Austin (includes SA, Houston, D/FW -- sorry I don't know offhand how far College Station is to those places), it is at least something to look at. A&M isn't what they were, but they have tradition, and when you bring a team like LSU/Bama/Fla to their location, TV wants a piece of it, and eventually, the cycle will swing back their direction.

Since I don't think we'd see a UNC/Duke split, the best options in my opinion (other than Texas) to achieve maximum TV exposure -- IF we do expand -- are A&M and a Virginia school.

But, you are right, it has to make economic sense and I'm not totally convinced any expansion really helps anything for the term of our TV contract.

One school that is apparently getting some behind the scenes interest from the Big 10 is Maryland. It fits the acedemic criteria that the Big 10 is looking for and would bring them into the Baltimore/Washinton D.C markets.

If Maryland is available and the SEC were to expand the Terrapains would be an interesting option.

The Pac16 TV markets contain 15% of the households in the nation. By shear numbers they will generate massive revenue.

ONLY if the cable channel is forced on people who could give a frick about CFB

if the west supported college football, why is only 1 school in the top 20 of revenue, and why are so many athletic departments on the verge of bankruptcy? denver's market ain't saving CU right now...why will it with a cable channel?

you don't get texas without a&m or vice versa. texas won't consider the sec so that's a no go.

I don't see how adding a Miami wouldn't be a good thing for the SEC. They would instantly be a cornerstone member of our conference. Personally I think winning the SEC in football is hard enough though. We don't need to add more obstacles.

they'd help with academics

they'd split up our money 1 more way, which decreases revenue for the 12 current teams. bad for the SEC

revenue > academics

yall are assuming that adding teams will ONLY split up the current revenue. You dont think ESPN or CBS would restructure the current deal to add more years??

Debateably the Big 10 revenues are now showing the opposite - since I was referring to revenue

why would espn want to go back to the negotiating table after just hammering out a deal? especially when only a couple of teams would be added if there were to be expansion.

Adding more years is good for the broadcasters; not the SEC. It's about viewers, not the length of the contract.

I always like a kid who can juke and jizz down the field. Dennis seems a little light on the juking part...more of a straight line runner--he just jizzes down the field.
