So you don’t think the Cards paid too much to get Rosen a few seasons ago?

Paying for potential over performance is exactly the kind of pitfall I would want my team to avoid at all cost, especially given how much experience he’s had

No one watches the Jets. Darnold was never the problem but got scapegoated by low IQ jets fans.

Gase is a problem. Dudes a fraud. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Darnold become a mid tier starter with some help. He’s got tools and size and isn’t too far along in his development to be ruined.

Teddy is a great guy and locker room addition. I could see a team wanting him in the QB room for a young QB they draft this season, which we know there will be at least 3 "starting" QBs drafted this year.

I always thought it was laughable that Carolina released Cam Newton because injuries, only to sign Teddy Bridgewater to a big contract. And now he likely ends up being there only one season.

Well to be fair, they signed Bridgewater knowing they were going to be in the market for an upgrade in a year or two while they rebuilt the roster and separating from Cam has a lot more baggage with that organization than separating from Bridgewater in the same scenario. They structured his contract specifically to give them an out after two years and pays him low end starter money so I get where they were coming from there

You roll the dice and hope you can develop.

QBs don't grow on trees like RBs.

So you want to buy high on a higher risk player with likely a lower ceiling of potential than someone you can get in the draft? That doesn’t make sense to me

I don’t have a problem with taking a chance on Darnold or other highly touted guys that haven’t lived up, but to pay a premium to do so is not a good strategy for trying to fix that position

Yeah but they also don’t magically get better over night. Tannehil might be the only real example of a guy with that much starting experience turning into a different player, and the Titans didn’t give up major draft capital to take that chance

Like would you be shelling out high draft picks for Mitch Tribisky right now? Marcus Mariota?

A 2nd 4th and 6th?

2 of those guys aren’t even guarantees to make the team.

For a QB?

I mean by this logic, the bears should’ve gotten a 2nd and 4th for Mitch

This is a lateral move for Sam Darnold. From hopeless to hopeless, at least for the next season, which is about all the time he gets to prove himself.

I think this could be really good for the Panthers. Still super young and with New York being so god awful Darnold's full potential hasn't been tapped into yet.

Agreed. He needed a change of scenery. I still think Darnold can be a pretty good QB, but it wasn't gonna be w/the Jets. He was set up to fail there.

A future 2nd and two later round picks isnt buying high.i guarantee you that someone else would have paid more after the draft.

I thought he played well at the end of the pretty bad season he had. He had nothing to lean on from a pass catching prospective.
I mean, frank gore was getting Carrie's wasnt It New York where gore was playing?

Panthers got a steal.

Most likely their new starting QB.

If he doesn’t work out, not much of a risk to get him.

It’s pretty high

After every knows that the Jets are definitely unloading him with a new rookie QB coming in and there’s less suitors in the market for a QB? Their leverage plummets after the draft

I mean the runningback in the backfield would have no impact whatsoever on my judgment on what Darnold is as a QB or could be.

And again I have no issue with the thought of grabbing him and thinking you can unlock him, it’s a possibility, a second rounder is just a real high price to pay for that gamble

Scouts are saying that he, if made available as a draft pick right now, would still be the 3rd QB taken in this upcoming draft.

those scouts were clearly wrong, 3 QBs will go in the top 10 of the draft, and the Jets got a 2nd rounder. If he was worth that value, the Jets would have gotten a 1st from someone.

The scouts likely mean based on his original draft prospect grade compared to those of this group. But bad habits learned and losing most of the rookie contract are why his value has diminished

That’s a bit much for the “seeing ghosts” QB.

If Brady and Rhule can’t fix his broke arse, well... it’s just a second but still.

Hitching your wagon to Teddy Two Gloves and Darnold seems destined for mediocre results.

I don’t think Sam is a franchise guy, but he was never going to succeed in that organization with that head coach.

This will go one of two ways for the Panthers:

1: He’s Tannehill and with that offensive supporting cast, that’s a perennial playoff team.

2. He sucks and puts you in better position for Howell next year.

So Bridgewater is done now right?
