Is it possible to win at Nicholls? Can they achieve something like SELU was able to do last year?
(no flame, serious question)
As someone who attended and graduated from Nicholls, I think I would honestly just as soon see them do away with football and use the scholarships saved under Title IX to try out some different Men's sports. Louisiana could use another men's soccer program and I'm sure there are other sports (maybe something like swimming?) that they could find a niche in.
Changing track a bit: I think that the Colonels nickname and mascot doesn't do them any good. Kind of like I don't think Ole Miss's nickname and mascot did them a lot of good after integration.

What about the facilities? I have heard that they are deplorable (should have included this with the first question)
That's defintely an issue that needs addressing. They're rennovating Stopher Gymnasium for the first time since the 70's right now. Maybe they can get to football at some point.

If he has enough connections, he can get legit FBS transfers (like SELU) who would be immediately eligible. McNeese and others have benefitted greatly from this for years
They've done it before with some success. Granted, they weren't as big names as what SLU has pulled recently, but they've panned out. Ladarius Webb was a transfer from Southern Miss.

Tim's from Destrehan and a real good guy. He's a high energy type and hard worker. If he's given time to bring in players he can make Nicholls respectable in their league. They're so bad right now it will take some time.

That's awesome but I thought he was on SEC network now but this is great news. Dude was a great college QB I think he'll do well.

That is good to know. I was in that gym for a game a few years ago and it was horrible. The lightning was very dim and the bleachers were old and creaky.

Read it as Tim Tebow. Whoa.
It would take a miracle to make Nicholls a winning program.
Tebow walks on water, so.......

A guy who has spent a decade as a position coach at ULL? Wow, scraping the bottom of the barrel, Colonels.
Yeah...because I'm sure their budget would allow for them to grab Ole Miss's QB coach or the like if they wanted, right?

Well the renovation isn't actually for the interior of the gymnasium. It is for the home and away locker rooms, coaches offices, and training room.

Yeah. I should have been more specific.
The bottom bleachers were replaced not too long ago. I've never noticed a problem with the lighting when I've gone to games.

No flame taken
Nicholls is in a tough situation. Tough to win in all sports
Have to fight up hill for what they can get.
Every now and then they come thru with some winners.
Know Timmy well. Would be great for the area.
He is well respected and liked there.

Is this the Rusty Rebowe who was a student at NSU back in the 70's? If so, that was one mean, tough dude. Have lots of stories on him if this true.

As a former Nicholls player, who had a pretty successful run in Thibodaux from 01-05 under Daryl Daye/Jay Thomas, there's no doubt in my mind that Nicholls can be regularly competitive. Tim Rebowe would be a great choice. He recruited me when he was at Nicholls. It's going to take a certain type of coach who can win at Nicholls, because there are specific obstacles that you must overcome the coach needs to have certain traits.
1.) Ability to recruit players. Facilities are an issue that needs to be improved and, in the case of recruiting, overcome. Tim has been recruiting Louisiana and the surrounding areas successfully for two decades now. He knows every coach, every assistant coach, every principal at every school. He has strong, strong ties to the River Parishes, which will give nicholls a pipeline in recruiting.
2.) Ability to raise money. Facilities are an issue, but have improved. Stubbs couldn't raise a dime for that program. Tim Rebowe, with all his ties to the chemical plants on the river in particular, will be able to.
3.) Assessing and projecting talent to fit a particular system. There are some great players that I played with at Nicholls who weren't even offered by other state schools. They were all conference and all american players for us. Daye and his staff did a great job of identifying certain traits, and putting those players in a position to succeed. For example, we had 3 all american offensive lineman that I played with who were passed over by the other schools b/c they were too small/short, despite being great ball players. In many cases, they were much better players than high school teammates who went to bigger schools. The staff recruited these players, developed them, and put them in a position to succeed - unlike Stubbs, who tried to fit round pegs into square holes.

Great point! Stubbs was a fricking joke that sunk this already hurting program. Because of him being a Mormon(which I have no issues with) he refused to sell this program around any alcohol involved functions which we know is hard to not be a part of living in South Louisiana. Dude was a joke!
Yeah Rusty Rebowe was one bad mother fricker!
