re: Rumors are that Tim Rebowe will be hired as Nicholls St. head coach

As a former Nicholls player, who had a pretty successful run in Thibodaux from 01-05 under Daryl Daye/Jay Thomas, there's no doubt in my mind that Nicholls can be regularly competitive. Tim Rebowe would be a great choice. He recruited me when he was at Nicholls. It's going to take a certain type of coach who can win at Nicholls, because there are specific obstacles that you must overcome the coach needs to have certain traits.
1.) Ability to recruit players. Facilities are an issue that needs to be improved and, in the case of recruiting, overcome. Tim has been recruiting Louisiana and the surrounding areas successfully for two decades now. He knows every coach, every assistant coach, every principal at every school. He has strong, strong ties to the River Parishes, which will give nicholls a pipeline in recruiting.
2.) Ability to raise money. Facilities are an issue, but have improved. Stubbs couldn't raise a dime for that program. Tim Rebowe, with all his ties to the chemical plants on the river in particular, will be able to.
3.) Assessing and projecting talent to fit a particular system. There are some great players that I played with at Nicholls who weren't even offered by other state schools. They were all conference and all american players for us. Daye and his staff did a great job of identifying certain traits, and putting those players in a position to succeed. For example, we had 3 all american offensive lineman that I played with who were passed over by the other schools b/c they were too small/short, despite being great ball players. In many cases, they were much better players than high school teammates who went to bigger schools. The staff recruited these players, developed them, and put them in a position to succeed - unlike Stubbs, who tried to fit round pegs into square holes.
