Yeah I agree.
Him and Jimmie benefitted the most from the Chase format. Gordon(who regardless IMO is the 3rd greatest driver ever behind Pearson and Dale) and Harvick got screwed the most.

Yes, Stewart had a horrible regular season, made the chase, and rattled off 5 wins and beat Carl either by 1 or with a tiebreaker. Someone can check me on that.
But yeah, Carl deserved 2011

I agree with you. I’d forgotten about Logano. He has been clutch with wins when he has too but just good apart from that.
He also wrecked some people to get in too

Go watch some real racing from Wide World of Sports from the 60's and 70's......it was really good stuff. Buddy Baker, Cale Yarborough, Petty, Allison, Pearson, Parsons, etc.

It was a complete media overreaction to Kenseth getting insanely lucky in 2003.
He was just fast and consistent. Similar to Terry in '96 vs Gordon who won more but wasn't nearly as consistent.

the last car Dale ever won in
Childress took this car around Talladega several years ago for some laps before a race.
Johnny Morris (Bass Pro founder) rode with him and spent the whole time filming through his phone like a dumb goober.
I’m glad Dale’s last win was with his classic paint scheme.

Jr dominated? Exactly what?

He was the best restrictor plate driver on the planet for the 1st half of the 00's. Nobody could touch him. Between 01-04 he won 6 superspeedway races, including 4 straight at Dega. The Earnhardts, collectively, are the greatest superspeedway drivers ever. Gordon isn't far behind.

Earnhardt in victory lane savvily and subtly turning his bottle of Coke during the interview so the full Coca-Cola logo could be seen on camera.
There used to be site called something like Victory Lane Celebration Station where a guy had a checklist and would note whether the weekly winner thanked the boys in the shop, thanked the primary sponsor, took a swig of sponsor drink, showed label of drink, thanked manufacturer, got a kiss from wife or girlfriend, etc.

Ok 4 races a year. If it wasn't for his last name, he would've collected shopping carts at wal mart. Never was a good driver. The good ones win on every type of track. Hendrick and a few other teams finally figured out what the 8 car was doing on set ups, etc for the restrictor plate races. Jr went over to the Hendrick team, and was given great cars and still didn't do much. He was basically in the right place at the right time with DEI.

You asked what he dominated. Sorry that wasn't the answer you wanted.
And Junior had wins on every type of track(except road courses). He was a pretty underrated short track driver all things considered.

Jr was a legitimate title contender from 02-05. Best shot was 04 but two guys ( Gordon Busch) were just a little better by the end of year. Very good at Atlanta, Bristol, and Richmond in addition to the plates.
Teresa really screwed up any chance of him winning with DEI, and he was 3rd behind Gordon and Johnson at HMS.

That and getting penalized fir dropping an S-bomb at VL in Dega hurt him in '04.

I always roll my eyes when folks post that chart and believe it would have really been that way. Maybe, just MAYBE the teams and drivers would have ran differently without the chase. Maybe a lot less checkers or wreckers mentalitity and more running for points in each race. I know I have heard several crew chiefs and drivers talk about once they knew they would make the chase they put all their emphasis on those last races and couldn't have cared less about the races leading up to them as well.

Funny sidenote, I worked for Miller Brewing in the 1990s. The Schellicis are the distributor for much of the state and had a box at Talledega. I went to visit them before the race and they said you should have come sooner you could have met most of the drivers. I said "here in your box". He said yeah, I have a priest here before the race to give a blessing for safety, kinda like a foxhole, they all catch the faith before they step on that track

Dumb things have been said on here, this is up there...

He couldn't hold Jeff Gordon, Rusty, JJ jock. Hendrick game him every resource possible in the 88 car, and did hardly anything. Complete recognition driver who sold a ton of merchandise. At least Dale Jarret was good enough to win a title. Most overrated driver in NASCAR history.

I was not an Earnhardt fan, but I like Junior in his post-race career.
He had 26 Cup wins. That’s not shabby.
For comparison to some damn good drivers:
Ricky Rudd 23
Terry Labonte 22
Carl Edwards 28
Jeff Burton, Bobby Labonte, Benny Parsons 21 each

Anyone know why Elliott Sadler didn’t have a better NASCAR career?
