Same. This was considered a home run hire.

Fickell - no idea what happened, his failure at Wisky really surprises me

This is why he's my #1. At least Napier and Freeze took over suboptimal situations, and somehow keep their guys playing competitively, even if they aren't winning.

Wisconsin is bafflingly terrible. Fickell getting Cincy to the CFP wasn't a small feat, so I think he can coach, but good grief, something is terribly wrong in Madison.

guess that answers my question, you haven’t watched a single game since Freezus became AU’s HC

we will lose both tossups and at least 1 of the “Heavy favorite” category

Dude was a bum. Literally drove OSU into its worst season in years in 2011. I remember that season and it was awful given we can pick up 6-8 easy wins!

Is Alvarez still mucking up things in Wisconsin? Like all of you, I thought Fickell would be successful there. What is most surprising is that they are not that competitive. Was Freeman that much of the magic at Cincinnati?

Obviously 10th hand but lots of PSU alumns I know say that they 50 million buyout for Franklin will not be an issue if they do go through with it. We will see.

Penn State has a $700million stadium expansion planned. Commitments to that are at risk if they keep Franklin around. They’re also starting to see players decommit. You’ll probably see a decent amount of current players hit the portal. He’s gone.

The problem with firing a coach like Franklin is that there aren't many guys better, and even fewer with the resume.

For all of his faults, he's had a lot of success at PSU.

He's just run into some absolute juggernaut OSU and UM eras.

The question is if the program itself is the limitation, at this point.

Yeah, I just don't understand. Don't ever take 10-2/9-3 football for granted. He would have made the playoff a bunch of times if we had 12 teams the past decade. They made a semi (yes, I know they had a good draw). People have this thing where they just expect a team to be better every year and the coach should be fired if they're not. Yes, Allar is a veteran, but they lost their two best players to the pros. Who is going to do better with OSU, Oregon, and U-M in the conference? BK re-tooled after bad seasons at ND and Harbaugh was considered a failure after year 6. Staying with a decent coach is sometimes the right play.

Wisconsin looked awful last night.

Their next five games are OSU, Oregon, Washington, Indiana, and Illinois. Fickell is as good as gone.

Franklin is checked out. Hes done all he can and he knows it. He loves penn state and he'll negotiate a lower buyer rather ride out his contract being miserable.

Actually wouldn't be surprised if he coached his last game there yesterday.

James Franklin just had a deep playoff run. His seat is automatically the coolest out of all the guys here.

I’m surprised fickell hasn’t been fired already after getting humiliated like that by Iowa. They might be the worst team in the big ten.
