You know what's even worse than the ULL name thing?
LSU-Shreveport pretending to be LSU.
See: the Tiger at their graduation ceremony.

Welcome to Louisiana.
It's how they expanded Tiger Stadium.
But when they do it, it's okay.

Nah, it's just that they are proud to be affiliated with the home campus. They field athletic teams in the NAIA, or equivalent with ~Div. III/II and are known as the Pilots.

Yep, you are going back 60 years.
Posted on 10/24/13 at 9:07 pm to ULL Cool J
Then have a Pilot at the graduation.
Shreveport is the worst city about this. Latching onto successful things from elsewhere. It has no successes of its own. No pride.
Place sucks, but that's another story.

. Because everyone knows LSU is the University of Louisiana.
No. If LSU was the University of Louisiana they should've taken the name "University of Louisiana" when they started. They chose Louisiana State University, which they don't even use athletically anyways ((LSU)). Its a fricking name, many other states have both, we can too.

I get this, but to say that ULL DOESNT have an ulterior motive of giving the image of the flagship school of the UL system, independent of athletics, s just being naive.

Oh no doubt, but theres no legal argument anyone can have against it. For ESPN to refuse to call them "Louisiana" when they requested it, while LSU has asked ESPN to NOT call LSU "Louisiana State" or "Louisiana", is just petty and childish.

Louisiana is not an abherration.
Among the states with a single flagship:
Louisiana
Arkansas
Tennessee
Illinois
Wisconsin
Minnesota
Ohio
Pennsylvania
Maryland
West Virginia

I'm not talking about UL being flagship, im talking about CALLING themselves Louisiana... but while we're on the topic of states having both a University of ---- and ---- state university
Arkansas
-Arkansas State University
-University of Arkansas
Tennessee
-University of Tennessee
-Tennessee State University
Illinois
-Illinois State University
-University of Illinois
Wisconsin - only university of wisconsin
Minnesota - Has both, but all schools have city designations, even the flagship
Ohio
Both Universities legally have flagship status for the state of Ohio
-Ohio State University
-Ohio University (Which was actually the first university in Ohio, henceforth giving it Flagship status before OSU (Flagship status is first given by oldest school which offers a round selection of majors, then name recognition))
Pennsylvania
-Penn State
-University of Pennsylvania
Maryland - Only University of Maryland
West Virginia
-University of West Virginia
-West Virginia State University (Its a HBCU)
Touching on Ohio's two flagship universities.. other states with two flagships are
Michigan (U-M, MSU), Indiana (IU, Purdue), Alabama (Bama, Auburn), Iowa (Iowa, ISU), South Carolina (USC, Clemson), Mississippi (Ole Miss, Miss St), California (Cal, UCLA), Arizona (UA, ASU), Pennsylvania (Penn St. and Pitt), Oklahoma (OU and OSU), Georgia (Ga Tech and Georgia), and California (Cal, UCLA, UCB, USC)
Louisiana only has one recognized flagship - LSU. This is due to the other major universities belonging to systems, i.e. the University of Louisiana System, which ULL belongs to (and to a lesser extent, the Southern University System).
Arkansas
-Arkansas State University
-University of Arkansas

Weak. Arkansas State, Tennessee State, yada, yada are not equivalents of the corresponding "University of" schools. And Penn is a private school, btw.
The fact of the matter is that ULL can't go to the state and present a case that (1) there should be a second state university with elevated status (which the name would confer), and (2) that university should be the school in Lafayette.
Hence the years of gimmickry, misdirection, backdoor moves (1984) etc. Decrying "Louisiana politics as usual" while exercising Louisiana politics as usual.

Arkansas State is not an equivalent of Arkansas...? Based on the logic around these parts, sounds like that's what's being insinuated.
Arkansas State should be called Northeast Arkansas University and know their place.

I read that- not too bad, but what I think would be really cool is if they just dropped the whole Louisiana deal and just became "the university of Acadiana." That shite would be badass.

Why, yes. Should that be the determination of the appropriate governing body in Arkansas. But it is not, hence they are not.
In the Louisiana law creating conditions under which to establish at least two "UL-Xs", the overt and implied intent was clear there would be no elevated status for either should that occur.

And yet we have "Louisiana" on our jerseys and no one has gone to prison.

You take the other obsessive Tiger fans here and make them look well adjusted. I mean shite, your whole handle is centered around this bullshite.
Posted on 10/24/13 at 11:30 pm to Fewer Kilometers
Again, you can't plead your case to the people of Louisiana, as there is no support outside of a 50 mile radius of Lafayette. So you resort to gimmickry.
