Problem is, Rafael Devers is a terrible 3rd baseman while Alex Bregman just won a gold glove.

quote:

@PaulHembo
Rafael Devers defensive runs saved:

2017 (-7)
2018 (-9)
2019 (-4)
2020 (-3)
2021 (-14)
2022 (-6)
2023 (-9)
2024 (-9)

By that measure, no infielder has cost his team more runs (-61 DRS) over that span.

quote:

Alex Cora said Chaim Bloom was in charge when the Red Sox told Rafael Devers he would be the third baseman longterm. “There’s a different leader here. Chaim is in St. Louis right now.”

Cubs were rumored to be in on Devers before he re-signed

So aside from overpaying, they frick team chemistry

Bregman has no ego, sure it won’t matter to him. LOL

Devers, the Owner would like to see you in his office at 9am tomorrow morning. He said that you should bring a suitcase with you.

Devers was a bum down the stretch last season. He needs to fix his shoulders first!

Devers is the worst defender in the sport regardless of position. Worst 3B in 25 years of me watching baseball.

Dude is a moron. You got your long term deal because you're a really good hitter. Nothing to do with your defense. Red Sox lose games sometimes because of it. Me first, team second guy Devers is.

Red Sox are trying to win and Bregman is making more AAV. And he's a proven winner. I'd cater to giving him what he wants over Devers at this point.

So Bregs left behind 160 and a teammate willing to switch positions so that he could have 3B.

He instead took 120 with 60 in deferrals… and this BS.

Hmm.

The Boras effect… Athletes continue to get screwed by him, for some reason they haven’t learned their lessons.

Devers is being a clown about this. He is obviously setting up a trade request.

The only logical explanation is he didn't want to be in Houston. But logic doesn't always apply in these negotiations. For someone that didn't want to take a paycut, he sure deferred a lot of money and signed with a team located in a state with high state tax.

This was a better deal. And it’s not a deferral, it’s a player option, lmao

There’s most definitely deferrals. He has opt outs after each year as well. There’s so much deferred money that this deal equates to a 3yr/90mill in current value.
There is $20 million deferred in each year of the deal. He will receive $15 million in salary in 2025, $20 million in 2026 and $20 million in 2027, with player opt outs in ’26-27. The $20 million deferred will be paid $2 million per year, beginning 10 years from the year it is earned, meaning the $20 million of deferred money from his 2025 salary will be paid in $2 million increments per year from 2035-2044

The deal the Cubs offered was a better deal from a straight up money perspective. They didn’t give him the opt outs & Fenway will be a lot kinder to his game than Wrigley would be
