The Caps won their 42nd game last night, becoming the first team to clinch a winning record. They have played 56 games.

Ovechkin currently leads the NHL in goals with 37. The closest player to him Patrick Kane, who has 34. Ovie has SEVEN games in hand on Kane.

I'm just sayin... this is fun.

Kane also has 49 assists to Ovechkin's 14.

No one is catching Patty for the scoring title.

i understood why nashville went a different direction, but they got rid of an excellent coach for an average coach, and will now watch playoffs.

All Caps needed was some one to bring discipline, and demand more from them. they got one of best coaches in league. He gets a ton out of a little, and can get the stars to play his hockey, they respect him.

Nashville owed the Caps one for essentially giving them Forsberg for nothing. So, the Preds get a great center, the Caps get the coach they've needed (Ovi had never played under a coach who had any prior NHL coaching experience until the Trotz hire... amazing).

Also, let's not underrate the moves that McLellan has made. the Forsberg trade, while terrible, has proven to be one of the best things that ever happened to the Caps, as it ended the GMGM era and brought in needed regime change. In the past two seasons, McLellan has added Oshie, Williams, and Richards to the forward core and Orpik and Niskanen to the blue line at very little cost in assets (pours one out for Joel Ward). He's also benefited from graduating Kuznetsov, Burakovsky, Wilson, Latta, Orlov, Schmidt, and Chorney from the minors.

But here's the fun tweet of the day from Pierre LeBrun:
quote:

On Christmas Day, the Ducks were 12-15-6 and looking for answers. They've since gone 18-4-2, best record in the NHL in that stretch.

The Caps have gone 17-4-2 since Christmas day. Their hot streak isn't even news anymore.

Barring injury, there really is no excuse for the Caps to not win it all this year. If they don't win this year, I'm convinced they never will

The only excuse needed is well they're the Caps. It's in their DNA.

The Hawks have done nothing right in this game. I'm good with not playing any more of these stupid arse outdoor games for the next decade, never seem to play well in them
