Yep. They have the talent to play up, so let them.

Enrollment should be a GUIDELINE, not a set in stone, immutable law.

I completely agree.

I still remember when I was in 5th or 6th grade our team made the state semi-finals only to lose by 10 or so to some manufactured private school.

Needless to say, since then I've been completely for making private schools do their own thing.

FWIW, I was talking about the HS Varsity team, not a a middle school team.

naa, dont have to be sorry. the private-public thing is a huge issue in ohio high school basketball, so i was just curious.

i remember shawnee making it to states in basketball awhile back, but i didnt recall them doing so in football...

It is a bit unfair how public schools are limited to the area but private schools can lure kids from all surrounding areas and any hood in the city.

It's more than a "bit" unfair. It's grossly unfair.

And just because some private schools are not very good or very interested in recruiting big talent to their programs doesn't change the fact that they have a huge advantage should they ever become competent or interested.

Yeah, we used to be a MISERABLE football school, but things have gotten a bit better over the last 8 or so years. Completely a basketball/soccer school till that point.

The WBL sucks now in basketball though too.
Ever since Jamar/the Politz(sp?) twins left, it just hasn't been the same.

Geography is also grossly unfair.

As is life.

Does anyone know how many states actually split up the private and public schools? I know of Mississippi off the top of my head, as several Louisiana private schools opt to play in MAIS (formerly MPSA).

IIRC, Texas splits them.

yes. One other thing that has not been taken into account thus far is the fact that private schools in bigger cities normally have much bigger fan bases than their public counterparts, and those fan bases keep the public school athletic departments going when those public schools host the private schools, especially in Baton Rouge.

I know that there are many HS coaches in BR that will never vote to separate public and private because if they don't get the gate draw from playing Catholic, Redemptorist, or Parkview then they can't run their department.

In defense of my arguments to keep them together, the public school division is already way too big to have private schools in it. Logistics would be a bitch.

there are some private schools that play in the texas public school league, but that is mostly because the TAPPS football is so inferior to the public school product.

+1

Catholic is playing Istrouma this year. You don't think Istrouma is grateful for this?
