If you could look at all the penalties that Alabama got during their recent 7 or 8 yr run you will see they get called for penalties at a rate just like anyone else. But if you actually watch the games they got mostly meaningless penalties when the game was in already in hand or in the middle of the field. Now if you look at their opponents penalties they were in critical times of the game. A lot of times bringing back big plays or putting the team in a hole. I know this sounds off the wall but I seen it in several of the games I watched, even when they didn't play LSU.

It's strange because once they got to bowl games or playoff they got called for penalties just like the opposing team.

ATL absolutely won the game because of some of those calls.

1)the phantom roughing the passer lead directly to their first TD. That was on 3rd down after the saints made a stop to get off the field.

2) the refs literally took 3 points off the board for a borderline call right before half. That's a penalty that ALWAYS gets a warning first.

3) the falcons were gifted multiple first downs on their second TD drive as well.

It wasn't that the ticky tacky calls were definitively wrong calls other than the roughing the passer, it's that the same ticky tacky calls were not going against the falcons.

ATL couldn't drive on the saints so the refs decided to drive on us instead. They were legit looking for flags to throw on the saints. It was an absolute joke.

The falcons offensive gameplan against the saints was as follows:

First down - struggle
Second down - struggle
Third down - rely on a penalty to move the ball down the field

Then hope something happens in the red zone because the refs can’t put it in the end zone for them

Their coach is a genius because it worked

Agreed. The fix was in, and there isn’t a better way to win.

The got 9 first downs due to penalty, and that has happened in 20 years.

That’s the way I saw it too. I didn’t want this thread to be solely about that game, but it’s too recent and too blatant for it not to be used as the premiere example.

I’m sure redskin fans thought the game was fixed for them to lose when the refs blew the call on cousins late in the game.

I’m sure panther fans thought the game was fixed for them to lose when the ref missed the offsides call on the saints to stall a key drive.

Etc. Etc. Etc.

Every time a team loses people are gonna blame the refs. It’s a cop out.

The issue with your example is that it wasn't one call that screwed the saints.

It was call after call after call.

Edit: I have never said or thought that any game was fixed before in my life. I've thought that some refs suck or some calls were awful but the level of one sided officiating in this game was blatant and pathetic.

Like I said before it wasn't the individual calls themselves, it was the disparity of calls. The fact that the we're looking to call stuff on the saints while ignoring similar stuff on the falcons. The league set it up so that every flag thrown on the saints can be defended abd any missed penalties on ATL can be chalked up to "refs can't see everything".

Some calls went against ATL too. Big plays at that. You can either blame the refs and look like a lil weinie. Or say We had our chances, we gotta do better. And maintain an ounce of pride that disappears when you gotta blame the refs.

Name a single big play that went against ATL.

They had 4 penalties all night and one of them was offset by a defensive holding call on the other side of the field.

They had a thirty yard pass to Julio jones that was wiped out by a really weak OPI call.

They weren't really penalized given the fact that it was offset by a defensive holding.....

In your only example, the saints also got a penalty on the play

Also the at anyone complaining about the 1 borderline call that went against ATL.

The refs sure didn't call the push off on Julio in the end zone did they....

They weren’t really penalised but they had a 30 Yd gain wiped out. I thought you may be trying to take a honest look at this but that post shows you don’t.

Do you remember what happened after that tragic call on Julio? The refs threw another flag giving ATL a first down.

Dud you comparing a 25 yard gain to a 5 year first down penalty.
