In general, helmets are so jacked up looking now. Logo decals are angled and tilted to fit the contour of a helmet.

If you need a helmet to protect the helmet to protect your brain, you might need to reevaluate your occupation.

Plenty of essential occupations have PPE. Not everyone can have a made up job moving paper around. The world needs construction workers, medical professionals and the like.

Back in the days before facemasks, players wouldn’t lead with their helmet.

I’m OK with keeping helmets, but get rid of the facemasks.

I think they just need to go to the lighter plastic facemasks or a version of lacrosse helmets. Its simple physics. Momentum is a major component of concussions. Momentum = Mass x Velocity. A helmet weighs over 4 lbs. A lacrosse helmet weighs under 3 lbs. Cut the mass part of the equation by 25% and theoretically, concussions will decrease significantly.

Aren't football linemen some of the most prevalent groups for CTE? Basically someone who spent 10+ years (high school thru NFL) head butting the opposing lineman on every play...

Yeah they look ridiculous but why wouldn't you take advantage of any technology that might keep you from turning your brain into mush before you turn 40?

Will it work better than the original cap? The two published studies testing it on a small number of players in real-world contact concluded that the original offered no protection.

I doubt this iteration will do better because it's not adding that much padding compared to what's inside the helmet, which already doesn't provide that much protection, and many blows involve the unprotected facemask. I don't blame any player for giving it a try though.

I guess the only thing I could see maybe working is some complete redesign of the protective gear that somehow dissipates the force of head contact throughout the entire body, if that's even possible. Maybe AI can design it and we can complain about the nutty looking gear that results in players wearing.

Why not put an additional third helmet over the guardian helmet?

Helmets in 2030:

This first appearance I can remember of external helmet padding was on Don Beebe’s helmet in the ‘90s. This is him in 1994. Seems there has been little progress in helmet technology in the 30 years since.

Because it doesn't look cool, and innthebage of social that is dramatically more important that long term health.

Romeo Doubs left with a concussion Sunday…wearing a guardian cap. They are meant to save face and protect the league and nothing else.

I'm not a fan of these. But hopefully you don't walk around making these kinds of leaps like a teenage girl all the time.
You would have a point if they said this would stop concussions altogether.

If leagues felt like it really worked, it would be mandatory

It’s sad that some of y’all are so vehemently opposed to a football helmet designed to prevent head injuries. 100% effective or not, at least they’re trying.

I'm just shocked that anybody is stupid enough to believe these would do anything to reduce concussions.

Romeo Doubs proved last week that scared, ugly, and stupid (all the hallmarks of a cuckold) is a losing trifefta.

You always look to call someone out but really bring nothing to the conversation. Tyjae Spears got a concussion wearing one a few weeks back. Of course they aren’t going to say they prevent concussions, because they don’t. And nothing proves that they even deter them. You think a hard hat at a construction site stops head injuries? Of course not, but OSHA requires them. Yet you are so edgy…grow up
