*** NEW UPDATE ***
Good morning,
We absolutely have a desperate need and we need your help now if you can. We believe in the power of prayer. One of our OL football players, Remy Hidalgo a Junior at Denham Springs High School, collapsed yesterday afternoon on the football field as practice was ending.
He was rushed to OLOL Children’s Hospital in BR. He arrived and had a 106 temperature, unconscious etc. Doctors fully believe Remy had a heat stoke. Through the night he has been declining:
Ashley, Remy’s mom, just sent me this information:
“They think he has some sort of brain damage. His blood pressure keeps dropping. They are having to give him lots of fluids and potassium and electrolytes. They think he may have some intestinal and kidney damage. He has had some seizures. They are trying to get him stable to transfer him to New Orleans but they have to stabilize him.”
Remy has the biggest heart and is like our High School Teddy Bear, everyone loves him.
Last week, Friday Sept 4th when we all went to the LA State Capitol to fight to have our football ?? season, Remy asked his mom if he could go! Remy stayed the whole day to participate and show his support.
His mom gave me permission to post this because we need your prayers. We KNOW & trust that our God can heal Remy. Please keeps Remy & his family & our DSHS family in your prayers.
I will provide updates, as i have them.
Here is a Remy’s picture while he was at the Capitol! You have Ashley’s permission to share this.
*** UPDATE at 9 am: Remy is still not responsive; they have had to paralyze him so the machine will do all of the breathing for him bc his heart can't keep up. They had to give him plasma bc his vowel & throw up have blood. Medical team is trying to stabilize him enough to move him to NOLA. The goal is to move him to NOLA & put him on the life support machine for ALL of his organs to try to heal. It's confirmed, it was a Heat Stroke. Please continue to pray, God is in control.***

Damn man, hate to hear this.
My thoughts are with Remy, his family, and your team. I have a son the same age that plays OL also, and the heat has been brutal.

Do you know if he was immersed in a cold tub prior to reaching the hospital? Also, was there an athletic trainer at the practice? I ask because the ER has no way of cooling the body. Cold immersion is the only treatment for a heat stroke. If emerged in a cold tub he has a great chance

there is/was a trainer on site and ice water bath was given.

Prayers for the young man and his family. I hope he makes a full recovery.
Were they making those kids wear masks during practice? What is the protocol on that?

Prayers for Remy.
Anyone at Denham know if they wore face masks/shields?
If they were, the face mask/shields should be carefully reviewed.

Praying for Remy but if he showed up to the hospital with 106F temperature, did the cold immersion work?
Heat stroke is a terrible thing. We have lost many of the Hurricane Laura victims to heat stroke.

Geez. That's terrible. Hopefully he recovers. heat stroke can be awful.
How hot was it yesterday when they were practicing?
If it was truly heat stroke and not some other factor, there's going to be a lot of questions. There's a reason the LHSAA does the water breaks during September football games.
