Happening a lot this week. Both in the SEC and ACC. Question is, should this be allowed? Should the teams canceling be penalized? For example we play Eastern Kentucky tomorrow that I am sure will affect our RPI in a negative way, but we will play. Meanwhile schools like Virginia, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, etc are canceling because it will hurt the RPI. Nothing will happen to them.

Do you see something changing next season? This is starting to become a bad trend

I'm not a fan of it at all. It's dishonorable. If UK did it, I'd call Mingione out. Speaking of which, I wish we'd makeup the canceled game we missed with y'all due to weather. Obviously too late to, but still, UK/UofL should have found a way.

It’s absolutely disgraceful and unsportsmanlike.

But the RPI formula needs to be changed to eliminate the incentive to do this. The committee should explicitly state that a win will always be valued above not playing at all.

Cancelations should all be forfeits unless they are weather-related.

Total bitch move

They knew these teams would be an RPI hit when they scheduled them

Maybe if these teams played better during the season, they wouldn’t have to blame RPI. All these coaches are doing is deflecting from not winning enough games

What I would change is for the P5 conferences, universally don’t have any midweek games in the month of May. There’s no benefit and no reason to play overmatched opponents this time of year

Clearly the money they’d make from those games isn’t as important as it used to be

Should definitely count as a forfeit (loss) against the team that cancels under these circumstances. It's not like they're surprised that suddenly Western Wyoming State University isn't ranked top-25 because they expected them to be there when the game was scheduled for that date, so honor your commitment to the team you scheduled that was willing to play.

Just another black eye on college sports. What used to be about the love of competition and putting the team first is now all subservient to “how do I get mine?” Weak pussies the bunch of them.

First- the RPI is a seriously flawed way of deciding these things. It is part of the root issue here.
Second- those programs should absolutely be punished but how??? There are legit reasons to cancel so they would just say that it was one of those reasons and cancel anyway. The issue is a symptom of the lack of real male leadership in our society today. It is dishonorable and disgraceful to cancel those games but doing the right thing when it doesn’t benefit you is not as common today as it once was.

When you drop in the RPI by winning sometimes, those coaches literally are putting their team first

The myth of the pristine amatuer sports and the love of competition as the driver.

putting the team first

How could someone remotely think this is not exactly what they are doing here.? Teams who are securely in the tournament, have secured hosting positions or whatever the level they are shooting for (negative RPI movement will not harm them) are not doing this. It is teams on a bubble of one sort or another.

Every time I see someone post this I assume (when it is not sarcastic) that they are incels or that their glory days were in high school and they are living in the past.

But that aside, it is kind of shitty and the solution is simple, treat the cancelation like a win in the rpi formula so they gain no benefit from the cancellation. Force an appeal process for all but weather cancellations.

just like with players "opting out" of bowl games to "prepare" for the draft, all it took was the first one to do it then everyone things it's ok. aTm did in a remarkable act of cowardice now others are following suit since they wont' be the only ones.

It's ridiculous. Play the games on your schedule.

This wouldn't be happening if teams weren't getting penalized for playing/winning midweek games against teams that are poor by RPI standards.

Simple solution for this, new rule that your bottom 5 rpi wins don't count toward your rating.

It’s bullshite and I’m glad LSU doesn’t do it. Pretty typical of an Aggie move though.

Make it a forfeit or make the P5 team travel to the lowly team. Aren't road wins much more valuable?
