People want politics intermingled with everything in their lives. They just don't want other people's politics intermingled with their things.
Just look at the OT, every thread is bound to have a few political responses about any topic.

The best solution is to stop watching sports.
It’s sad that it’s come this way.
But I’ve started doing this

Pro sports were dead to me before covid.
Covid wiped out college sports for me. I am embarrassed at how much time and money I invested in these sports....and they don’t give a flip about me.
My family time, personal productivity and savings have all flourished after severing ties with pro and college sports.

You have been okay with politics in sports for decades. You LOVE those God Bless America Patriotic Rallies that we have before NFL games every week. You just don't want "their" politics in sports. And if you don't know who "they" are, ask TigerChief10.

What drew a lot of ppl to sports was the sense of community, the civic pride. It wasn’t as much about the spoiled millionaire on the field as it was sitting amongst your neighbors and celebrating something you all had in common. Maybe it was the only thing you had in common but that’s all that mattered for those 3 or 4 hours.
That’s been corrupted and now it’s just one more thing to argue about and be divided over. It’s pretty damn sad IMO.
And to all those saying sports have always been political, you’re right. But, you’re being extremely obtuse to act like the events of the last couple years are just “how it’s always been”.

For me, this is correct
I don’t want liberal shite in sports
I’m sick of it, because it’s a bunch of athletes literally spitting on my beliefs

I refuse to be lectured to about race and privilege by racist people with far more privilege than I've ever had. It's absurd. Enjoy your millions for playing a child's game and stfu.

I just refuse to hear about all the athletes that love Xiden and Kamala, and as soon as an athlete says he voted for Trump he’s black balled

What, in your opinion, is wrong with loving this country? Who do you refer to as "they" and why do you hold them apart from America? Be specific.

do you mean the national anthem? it wasn't even shown on TV except for major games.
or do you mean all the stuff after major national tragedies like 911? that's isolated stuff and in no way pervasive over time

I recall those celebrations being called jingoistic by our august media

Unless they say something about politics you agree with, right? Like Barkley did last week

For me I still love sports, and I'm not going let the pervasive and heavy=handed socio-economic rhetoric keep me from watching it enjoying what I love.
I'll mute the BS if it comes up. I watch Cubs games almost every day and outside of the sideline gal they bring in maybe 3-4 times a game for 30 seconds who might insert some socio-political theme once in those 3-4 appearances...it's all baseball.
Just wish the Cubs weren't sucking so bad!!

Politics IS sports at this point. It’ll be a long, long time before we disentangle the two.

Are you going to stop watching movies because the actors have differing political opinions? Just enjoy the entertainment, why do you let it bother you what their view on politics is?

When do you think politics and sports didn't run into each other?
Oh wait, you mean the political issues that you don't agree with and make you feel uncomfortable. Well then I have no suitable answer for you.
Yes, those days of athletes or announcers beating me over the head advocating for massive tax cuts and reduced federal budgets, trade deals that actually favored the United States and upholding private property rights were tiresome, to be sure.

Exactly. Well said.
Everyone talks politics. Athletes, actors, rich people, celebrities, musicians, Tigerdroppings, etc. Athletes are not unique in this. They just get heard more bc you pay attention to sports more then Actors and musicians.
