Is it really asking too much to watch a bunch of morons run around for a couple of hours without having to hear their dumb takes on voting laws and shootings 1,200 miles away?

Or at least just contain the virtue signaling to the pregame like they used to?

I realize this is a melt and I’ll probably get hated on... I was just hoping they would eventually phase out the retarded politics and trend back to being escapism. It’s clear that may never happen so maybe it’s best to give up and let it burn down

No.

Oh, I guess you want them to “shut up and dribble” huh?

It’s time privileged white folk hear about the world outside of their mansions.

I'm actually loving it because it's proving to many people (myself included) how I don't really need sports in my life

It’s makes me wonder why I wasted so much time and money on sports. Even when fans can return in full capacity.. I don’t see the point in paying a kings ransom to watch a child’s game... especially when the leagues and their athletes openly hate me

Nope, injecting politics into everything is here to stay. The best solution is to stop watching sports.

I love having no idea about the N.B.A. or M.L.B. anymore. The N.F.L. is so pervasive it’s almost impossible to avoid having a little knowledge about it still. But a few weeks ago I was thinking about joining a fantasy baseball league for fun because I used to do those growing up and I was really good at it. But I decided against it because I realized I don’t know jack shite about M.L.B. baseball and its players anymore.

When do you think politics and sports didn't run into each other?

Oh wait, you mean the political issues that you don't agree with and make you feel uncomfortable. Well then I have no suitable answer for you.

Haven’t watched a professional sport on Tv in nearly 3 years . Was going that way before it got so political but I don’t miss it at all

No, he means when ESPN covered and discussed sports highlights and X’s and O’s. He means when sports writers mainly wrote about team matchups and not societal injustices. Basically he wants mid 2000’s back. It’s not THAT long ago.

It will when you stop going to their games and stop buying their sneakers
You saw how quiet they got when China hit their bottom line
Let’s see mlb take a stand against China

I remember as a kid in the mid 90’s through highschool, summer time was NBA time. I watched every game I could. I loved Jordan, Shaq, Kobe, Duncan, Nash, and Ben Wallace.

I can’t tell you the last time I watched an entire NBA game. Maybe when the Cavs beat the warriors in the finals?

I’ve run out of time to invest in sports. I never really watched MLB, I follow the NFL for fantasy football reasons, I love LSU football for everything associated with college football: the atmospheres, rivalries, tailgating, personal connection to the university, all of it. This past year sucked dick with all the pageantry gone. If the team and school keeps pushing progressive/SJW messaging and continues to kill the game day, on campus atmosphere, I’ll stop going to those too.

I’m not the one crying because people have to show valid ID to vote..

So perhaps the leagues should get over it and stop moving/cancelling games over political issues they don’t agree with and make them uncomfortable?

Right there with you

I have been that way for years . It really hasn’t had much to do with politics , it’s just that professional sports are boring. I will watch college sports all day long . Political aspect just drives it home

People with any sense of history would not be saying this stuff.

Politics and sports have always been intertwined. Sports are substitutions for actual fighting between groups.

What’s new is the constant, incessant injection of individual politics into them now.

What you said he means and what the OP said are different things.

The athletes have many more platforms to get their message out than the 2000s. YouTube (and then other video sharing platforms) killed the format that made ESPN popular, so they and other sports-centric news outlets needed to pivot to survive.

ESPN has been doing what many of you criticize for 10+ years. It's death won't come from people turning it off but from those never turning it on.

No. Only end I could find was to limit my participation. I just watch LSU and golf now. I don’t miss it at all.
