f terms of if New Orleans would have a bigger crowd, most people don't know that Skenes went to LSU, even in the baseball world. College baseball is a niche sport.

The majority of Astros fans knew Alex Bregman was from LSU because there are so many LSU fans in Houston. if there was a team in NOLA with Skenes every one in the local market would know he’s from LSU.

However NOLA could not support an MLB team. It could not keep AAA

New Orleans would look like Tampa bay fans within 2 years, outside of when they play cubs, cardinals, Red Sox, Yankees , or dodgers. no way we would support it

They don’t support the Pelicans… and the NOLA/Baton Rouge demographic aligns much better with NBA than MKB

the smallest city in MLB is Milwaukee with a metro population of 1.5 million

NOLA’s metro population is 966k

there simply isnt a large enough population base, corporate base or a MLB ready stadium

I think the bigger problem is Pittsburgh’s ownership, not their fan base

The inaugural year when it's the shiny new toy in town maybe. But then they would be a poverty team in a league with no salary cap and there isn't enough money in town for people to get tickets to the Saints, Pels, and hypothetical MLB team, people are going to support the Saints while the other 2 fall by the wayside. Quite frankly I wonder how long the Pels will still be here.

FWIW, Pirates-Reds wild card during McCutchin’s prime might be the single best baseball crowd I’ve ever watched on TV

Been to Pittsburg on a couple of occasions to watch them play the Cubs, it's my favorite stadium I've been to outside of Wrigley and Pittsburg is a very underrated city IMHO.

They were still pretty competitive when I went and the crowds were great and they were into baseball. They did pay one of their veterans just recently - Reynolds, but as often happens with veteran position players they get paid once their best days are past.

Hayes was a hot shot prospect who has never panned out. They have several good young pitchers outside of Skenes, but their lineup is just not good and if I was a fan I'd be a bit upset about the investment in improving and also in the development.

Louisiana cannot support a baseball team. He'll they can barely support a basketball team and the Saints rank 14th in attendance at 70k per game. I doubt you are getting more than 20-25k for a baseball game and many days even less around 10k.

Any outdoor sport that overlaps with the summer is going to do terrible numbers in NOLA, regardless of team success.

IMO they should be doing like Vegas and bring more shows/performers/resident entertainers to town.

Oh I totally agree, New Orleans would be the equivalent of Tampa or Miam Re: baseball attendance after the honeymoon year.

Playing the Astros (a perennial playoff team) and Paul Skenes pitching and the attendance is 15,000 I guarantee New Orleans would support that team better

Without fact checking I’m gonna say 15K for a Tuesday night game is pretty decent especially for a really bad team.

Yeah right just like how New Orleans has always supported the pelicans even when they had some good teams. Nola isn’t a great local sports market. It’s only decent when the saints are relevant. Which isn’t often.

Pittsburgh is an incredible baseball town. People don't realize that even with the Steelers winning Superbowls, the Pirates were still more popular until the late 90's

The game was at 6:45 local time.

New Orleans doesn’t have the corporate support for an MLB team. Eighty-one dates a year is a huge ask for that city.

That’s the biggest issue with MLB in LA. where to put the team. Nola would not support it enough, the most enthusiastic baseball fans in state are in central Louisiana and the western parts of I-10. What are they gonna do put the team in Lafayette? Thats just not possible

Probably not even bottom 5 for MLB games attended this week. And it was only Tuesday.

I just looked at the Reds the day before and they were at 18k. Is there really that much difference?

It's not that dumb. The Steelers were perennial losers until after the Pirates won another World Series in '71 and Clemente passed away. And the Pirates stayed good throughout the 70s until they won again with the "We Are Family" gang. The Pirates were beloved.

They had a AAA team from like 1993-2019. They changed the name to something stupid in 2017 and then left.
