This is Pirates baseball.

Just when you think the Pirates couldn't top what they did a couple of weeks ago. Well, they did.

Even worse is what happened to Bobby Witt Jr. Hit a home run and ump didn't see him touch home plate and he was called out.

Shouldn't be required to touch any base on a HR to get the score

Another ancient dumb baseball thing

Later in the game, he also over-slid second on what was a successful steal and was tagged out.

It is literally the most basic act in all of sports. This should not be an argument.

Was thinking the same thing. Once the ball is over the fence, it’s a foregone conclusion. In football, when the ball goes through the goal posts, the fg is good. The kicker isn’t required to run around the field to get his 3 points.

They should give the batter the option to round the bases or go back to the dug out.

I have never understood missing a bag in baseball. The few times I did I immediately went back to it.

How did he not see him? The ump was looking right at his feet and then proceeded to clean the plate after Witt touched the plate twice.

Wtf?

In football you score points by putting the ball through the uprights. It’s over at that point.

In baseball, you score by touching home plate. To get to home plate, you have to advance around the bases. To advance around the bases, you have to touch the previous base.

Because hitting the ball out of play, over the fence, for a homerun requires the bases to be rounded.

A kid hit a moonshot off my son in a summer league game a few years back. It gave his team the lead and when his team mobbed him at home plate he actually stepped over it and never touched home. Our coach saw it, as well as the ump. We appealed and he was called out. The other team's fans went bezerk, but no food or chairs were thrown. Our team ended up winning by a run which didn't help matters. I was just glad the ump had the balls to make the call.

It does

Touching home plate is how a run is scored.

The Pirates must have some sort of aversion to 1st base.
