The more you read, the less likely it seems this is getting past DOJ and the FTC let alone European regulators who will take absolute glee in killing this deal.
This is far from over on many angles. To start, it still has to pass the PGA players board vote before it even gets to the legal process

Greg Norman got his wish?

Absolutely he did. A clip was played from a year ago were he laid out exactly what he wanted which was a merger that would allow for golf to played more internationally. The World Tour he has always advocated for. What he described is exactly what is taking place.

His goal was never to run LIV, it has always been exactly what just happened.

Why didn’t the PGA just pursue an investment from a western source and go to a for-profit model on their own terms? I suppose if the Saudis really don’t care about the return portion of their investment then it would be hard to field a competitive offer. That’s just kind of crazy because it would imply that they’re 100% using this as a means of “sports washing”
No western source would invest anywhere near what the Saudis are investing.

As an example, the Saudi government is pumping funds into soccer. A 35 year old but elite soccer player, Karim Benzema, just signed a 3 year $643 million contract. That is not a typo, that's $214 million per season to play in a Saudi league.

That's basically what a firm from the west would be up against.

His goal was always to merge secretly without him knowing and be left out after the merger?

No, his goal was for a world tour. Norman did not start LIV and was brought in late in the game. His goal was achieved based on his previous statements.

I believe Norman's goals were probably closer to try and destroy the PGA tour and to make himself even richer and powerful.

No Laying Up discussed this. They think the government will look the other way…they think this has been done to open the oil production from the Saudis in return of allowing this merger.

I’m just telling you what the boys of No Laying Up are saying. It’s makes sense, the US government want the wells to open up more by the Saudis to keen the gas prices down. If this gets approved by the FTC, then you know why!

Here you go…have a listen.
No Laying Up

The golf world was rocked by a stunning announcement Tuesday morning that the PGA Tour would be forming a new "commercial entity" with the Saudi Public Investment Fund, including LIV Golf, as well as the DP World Tour. The boys fire up an emergency Live Show to discuss what details are known at this point, what the road back to the PGA Tour could look like for players who made the jump to LIV, some potential FTC-DOJ legal roadblocks, and a ton more.

That might work if we were talking about a State Department waiver where a trade like that might make sense. No way the FTC or DOJ care what State want, let alone regulators in Europe.

Killing off a Saudi golf takeover is like a bureaucrats wet dream.

None of that is based in reality or what he has said for many years. If the PGA Tour is destroyed as you say, how does that make him richer or more powerful?

The media hates him and spins this as a great slap in his face. My bet is he is laughing at all of the haters right now as what he pushed for is happening.

it wasn't something I think they put a lot of thought into. I only listened to the first half or so on my way in.

The line about the DOJ was just kind of a "who fricking knows what is going to happen"

I doubt they’ll vote against making their purses 10x what they are now.
