Once the saudis want in on your sports league, they will be in. There was no stopping them from being a part of it. That’s where people fundamentally disagree with you

Why didn’t the PGA just pursue an investment from a western source and go to a for-profit model on their own terms? I suppose if the Saudis really don’t care about the return portion of their investment then it would be hard to field a competitive offer. That’s just kind of crazy because it would imply that they’re 100% using this as a means of “sports washing”.

Tiger is Nike and Nike is China, so let's not pretend Tiger is some sort of moral champion here.

So did we win against the folks pretending to like and root for LIV? LIV didn’t even like LIV.

It had absolutely zero to do with golf. It was a completely shite product designed for the Saudis to get a seat at the table and half the golf board was rooting for it for what reason, idk.

Could somebody explain how this will work?

Does LIV keep happening? And other than the Majors and maybe a few big PGA events, do the LIV guys even want to go do a weekly grind of PGA on top of their LIV?

Not sure that’s been spelled out yet.

Like $ and greed have ruined college football, so it will happen to the PGA tour. All the things that make it unique currently… the etiquette, equipment and course rules, tradition, honesty that’s a hallmark of the sport.

And unfortunately it will filter down to how the game is played and consumed among the masses.

PGA remains non-profit. PIF owns all the tv rights. PGA bent the knee for that Saudi money

Pretty sure I read it would be for-profit

There are multiple entities that contain the PGA namesake. One will stay a governing body and still be a not for profit organization. The one that generates all the revenue will be for profit.

Word is Norman also had no idea about the merger and will be the odd man out on the LIV side. How ironic he and Rory need to go share a beer and commiserate.

I know this is an unpopular opinion but I respect the guys who didn’t go over. Everybody bows down to the almighty dollar these days.

It’s not an unpopular opinion, but your respect isn’t buying Rory that second beach house in Malibu.

Not sure why Rory is getting made fun of. Oddly enough, this is exactly what Rory wanted. He wanted Saudi backing of a unified league. He got it. Hmm….

I mean, he got his exact wish

Because he was a petulant douchebag and Jay's mouthpiece during the entire fiasco. The end result doesn't erase that. He intentionally burned bridges in a public manner, with a very holier than thou attitude while he did it. He deserves some mockery.

Because a western source is going to only give funding that they think makes financial sense in terms of ROI

The Saudis just threw money out with no real care and far over any expected ROI….

Just yesterday the PIF signed a middling over the hill midfielder in soccer for 100 million…. They are coming for soccer next, then, who knows

In simple terms

Western source

We will fund you 100 million because we think we can get 150 million in return

Saudi source

We will fund you 1 billion. We will only get 150 million in return. Meh

The more you read, the less likely it seems this is getting past DOJ and the FTC let alone European regulators who will take absolute glee in killing this deal.

As did Mickelson and Greg Norman. Monahan is a royal idiot. All of this could have happened long ago but he was not the man for the job unfortunately.

What bridges did he burn? He still is best friends with Brooks and constantly plays practice rounds with DJ and Brooks….

The only players Rory or JT went after were those that started the bad mouthing of the tour. The only people with issues with story are LIV over the top fanboy bots

Greg Norman got his wish?

His wish was to destroy the PGA. Instead, he was left in the cold in all negotiations and is the odd man out in all of this
