So what's the reasoning here?
It was a “lifetime” ban
But I don’t doubt Trump has some influence here

f all the "about time" bullshite, Pete was his worst enemy.
He was told to stop promoting gambling, chill out, stay away from the shite and he would get in. He gave them the middle finger and was giving MLB picks inside casinos and at the DERBY
They told him again, sop the bullshite, lay low. Nope, he would do signings and sports betting shows right outside cooperstown.
Guy was a degenerate loser, who could of just gone away and been voted in. Instead they waited till he died, to eventually put him in, so he wouldnt embarrass himself and MLB.
He's the drug addict who couldnt stop.

And i have ALWAYS thought his equipment should be in, with his jersey and his accomplishments. then, when he dies, he goes in.

Wasn’t it a lifetime ban? They had to wait until his life ended.

The evidence against Jackson is as strong as that against Cain if not Judas Iscariot. The whole deal is people saying “Poor Joe, he didn’t know what he was doing,” like he was retarded (I’ll use the word) or something.
He was not retarded. He was country smart and again he owned and operated multiple businesses. He just couldn’t read or write, which again was not uncommon for someone born in the bowels of South Carolina in 1887.
Correct, he was not retarded.

However, nobody placed him in any meetings about the fix. Nitpicking his stats and plays from the series don't offer any conclusions. And again, his alleged confession vanished, he didn't get paid until midway through the series, and he testified he didn't even know what was in the envelope when it was handed to him. So we really don't know what he was doing or thinking at the time.
Yet, Landis banned him and rest of the Black Sox before they even went to trial. He also threatened to ban John McGraw for buying a race track. He suspended Babe Ruth for barnstorming in the offseason. He ruled baseball like an overly emotional tyrant, and maybe he had to at the time, but I think it's reasonable to finally reverse his judgment. And NOT because of Asinof.

This is Trump’s doing, methinks

Jackson must have been even better than I thought if he could hit .375 while dumping games.
Posted on 5/13/25 at 11:11 pm to FightinTigersDammit
He hit .286 in the games they were trying to lose and .500 in the games they were trying to win. And he got half his hits in the games they were trying to lose in one game, in which his hits were negated when he pulled up and allowed a triple that brought home the winning runs for Cincinnati.

Hit .500 while trying to lose. Impressive.

We will just have to agree to disagree, Landis was horribly wrong on the color line which has damned him forevermore in history, but I think he gets a bad rap on how he handled the rest of his duties.

No he hit .500 in the games they were trying to win.
Again, the Black Sox were not trying to lose every game, weren’t trying to get swept. They were trying to manipulate the betting line by giving people the idea that they had gotten on track.

Well, edit your last post, because it says exactly the opposite.

Embarrassing that they waited until these guys were dead.
Clearly we all have a different view of what "lifetime" in "lifetime ban" means. Manfried said that from now on once a person is dead that means they served their lifetime ban and then it will be up to the HOF if they get in or not.
Also lol at all of y'all "It's a shame they waited until Pete died!" when the man literally agreed to a lifetime ban.

I knew this would happen right after Rose died so he couldn't enjoy his induction while he was still alive.

All Pete had to do was cop to what he did and he'd have gotten a one-year suspension. He'd have been back to manage the Reds in 1990, and I believe they won the World Series that year. But he couldn't do it because he thought like an athlete, that he could play hard and hustle and get out of it. And he was so stupid that he basically agreed to the death penalty as long as he didn't have to admit what he'd done.
