I’m for putting Bonds and Clemens in because they’ve paid enough penance and because no one in that era, including the fans, had clean hands.

But do the people who run Hall of Fame want them in? Fans are mistaken if they think the family that owns/runs the thing give three cacas what fans want.

The writers could also put 100 Hall of Famers in every time they vote. All they have to do is get 75% of the vote. Again, it’s set up to drag things out.

Jackson's been dead for almost 74 years.

My comment was pretty clearly more direct at Rose.

About time.

It would be nice if MLB/voters took time into consideration.

But since it was apparent MLB was insistent on waiting for Rose to die before removing the ban, lest he enjoy the accolades while breathing....

This action by them comes more across as petty and vindictive, knowing full well they were gonna mea culpa Rose - as long as he's dead, just to show him. Something children would do....but they always said, baseball is a children's game.

Hence my entire point that the Hall only loses credibility every cycle. It has no legitimacy or relevance if it doesn’t contain the best players in the game.

Which, again, is very stupid.

The deciding factor here will be what the Clark family of Cooperstown, New York, who owns/runs/controls the HoF, want.

MLB and Rob Manfred have ZERO control over what the HoF does. And the people who own/run/control the thing don’t care much about what fans want, either,

If the Clark family doesn’t want Rose and Jackson in, the word will come down to the committees that they don’t get in.

Wasn't shabby either

What a fricking slap in the face to Pete Rose’s family that they waited until he was dead to do this.

Reddit in full meltdown mode over this.

This was only because of Trump’s lobbying.

By the president that Manfred loves. Jackie Robinson was just some guy, no reason in particular that we celebrate him, and admitted child rapist Pete Rose needs to be bowed down to.

The open corruption of this era is staggering.

Just add the MLB commissioner’s office to the long list of people that have rolled over for Trump.

I think I read about a false affidavit for Jackson and when he was questioned in person he gave different answers, even saying that he’d never been asked a lot of the questions given in the alleged phony testimony.

You might be referring to the 1924 trial where Jackson sued Comiskey. I think those transcripts were published in the last few years.

Jackson definitely denied a lot of his grand jury testimony from 1920, including denying he was ever asked about taking money. The alleged confessions by Jackson, Lefty Williams, and Eddie Cicotte were also stolen before the 1920 trial.

The problem for Joe was that his wife admitted she saw him bring home a large sum of cash, and their banker in Georgia produced a deposit slip for $5100 after the World Series ended.

Too bad he isn't alive to see it.

Now, get Bonds and Clemens in and we're golden.

The evidence against Jackson is as strong as that against Cain if not Judas Iscariot. The whole deal is people saying “Poor Joe, he didn’t know what he was doing,” like he was retarded (I’ll use the word) or something.

He was not retarded. He was country smart and again he owned and operated multiple businesses. He just couldn’t read or write, which again was not uncommon for someone born in the bowels of South Carolina in 1887.

Legit take

This is nothing less than the MLB corpocracy covering its own arse.

The 2 for 1 is exactly as you noted; Now no one can scrutinize Otani's clearly betting on baseball OR ZERO investigation as MLB looked the other way, covering for it.

But the folks who think "Eight Men Out" was gospel truth and have looked at this for 100 years with their emotions and not their brains have won, and I'm actually glad, because maybe people will shut up about it now.

Eh, I think this is a little unfair. I don't know anybody who still believes Eight Men Out is gospel truth. I think the debate (at least in more recent decades) has been more about whether the punishment fit the crime.

A case can certainly be made that Landis needed to do something draconian to make an example of players who threw games. However, I think it's also fair to question permanent bans for all the Black Sox when disputes surround the extent of their involvement.

Buck Weaver proclaimed innocence until the day he died, and some of his teammates wrote affidavits on his behalf saying he didn't do anything. Jackson and Williams both told the grand jury that they didn't see a cent until after game 4.

But they took the money regardless of when they took it!

What are the questions surrounding anyone’s involvement save Weaver, who was in until he had a change of heart and was penalized for not ratting out the others?

It was a myth that Comiskey was a cheapskate,

It was a myth that Cicotte got screwed out of his bonus.

The whole deal is that the White Sox were divided into two armed camps …. farm boys, rednecks, roughnecks, escapees from the inner city slums vs. the high falutin’ college boys and people from the right side of the tracks … who hated each other’s guts.

The roughnecks got greedy and decided they wanted a big score. End of story.

And I don’t think a lifetime ban for throwing a championship series is draconian punishment.

Don't know too much about Shoeless Joe but I've always been on board with Pete Rose being indicted.

Hope he gets in and soon
