As difficult as it was for them to remove their emotions from the process, the sinking feeling about excluding an undefeated Power 5 conference champion was tempered by the belief that they did what they were tasked to do -- vote for the four best teams.

"All of us had the emotional tie, like, 'Holy s---, this is really going to suck to do this,'" one committee member told ESPN. "We talked about that over and over, and we just kept coming back [to] are they good enough with what they have to win a national championship, and it just kept coming back [to] we didn't think they could."

Interesting. Didn't know the committee was tasked with deciding who will beat who. Sounds like tyranny. Have they heard of upsets?

That’s not what they’re tasked to do. And it’s not what they’ve previously done. These people are fricking clowns. This is without a doubt the worst possible way anyone could come up with to sus out who is the National champion.

Sounds like a power play by Stanky stinky and the elephants.

Screw them, move the SEC commission to neutral state, fire stinky Stanky and his bought and paid for referees.

Hire a commissioner who is not an alumni of any SEC school.

Yes, it is what they are tasked to do. How well they always do it is subjective.

Their thinking would be understandable if they had dropped Florida State to #6 after the Travis injury. But they had Florida State at #4 leading up to the ACC Championship Game. Why not state that from the beginning instead of dropping FSU down at the last minute?

It's exactly what they're tasked to do

CFP SELECTION COMMITTEE PROTOCOL

HOW TO SELECT THE FOUR BEST TEAMS TO COMPETE FOR THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
(Adopted unanimously by the BCS Group June 20, 2012)

Ranking football teams is an art, not a science. Football is popular in some measure because the outcome of a game between reasonably matched teams is so often decided by emotional commitment, momentum, injuries and the “unexpected bounce of the ball.” In any ranking system, perfection or consensus is not possible and the physical impact of the game on student athletes prevents elaborate playoff systems of multiple games. For purposes of any four-team playoff, the process will inevitably need to select the four best teams from among several with legitimate claims to participate.

Ok, Georgia was favored -5 over Bama for the SECCG. Should Bama have been allowed to take the field to pull off the upset? No, based on the committee's logic

Wait until they expand the playoff..

"Sure XYZ School is undefeated, but could they REALLY beat Ohio State or Oregon!?"

Alabama could have 3 losses and they'll still find a way to get them in there because they COULD win any game

like a shitty team muffing a punt that would have iced the game and knocked a playoff team out of contention?

This will be like asking a leftist why a man can get pregnant. Get ready for some mental gymnastics.

This is not close to the same thing, but I'm hoping I didn't need to tell you that.

So thinking the SEC champ is better team than the ACC champ makes me a leftist

Fair enough

They protected FSU from embarrassment and now they have to win one game to claim a Natty instead of 2

they waffle between on field performance and their eye tests/beliefs so much they can’t even get a coherent argument straight

My biggest problem with this line of thinking is Michigan is winning the same way FSU is. Their QB didn’t do anything in the same time frame that Travis has been hurt. In fact, FSU’s backups put up better numbers than Michigan.

“4 Best Teams”

based on what?

“4 Most Deserving Teams”

based on what?

The correct path always leads to: BASED ON RESUME

Everybody realizes this has everything to do with money right?

And nothing else. Hence the yearly waffling based on "eye test" or "who we think would win.," etc.

If there's anything I've learned from sports betting, groups of people are very good at determining which team will win...
