LSU is a blueblood. Five national championships and three in this century.
. You don't become a blueblood with new money.

That's why in the wealthy world you have old money, bluebloods who don't have to work for their reputation...Vanderbilt's, Carnagies, Rockefellers and then you have nouveau rich...

LSU is nouveau rich like Miami. A great rich player but really just of the 21st Century...tech money.

Bluebloods is overused.

There's only a few Carnegies, Rockafellers and Vanderbilts...even if some are maligned now.

Notre Dame
Oklahoma
USC
Alabama
Ohio State
Michigan

Other schools might have more success in the last 30 years but that's not the definition of blueblood.

The term blue blood should be of an analytical nature. Now its just subjective. Numbers ought to be involved. I aint doing it tho.

Nebraska also says hi. Winning a championships in 1998 let alone in the 70's means nothing in today's game. The only reason Michigan and USC continue to get great players is for the college name pedigree in the workforce.

Let's get back to talking about how crappy Georgia's year was.

It seems like a fluke title but people are amazed they haven't won since?

It was a dog shite SEC schedule...and most of the teams they played had a losing record.

And the few teams they played that had a winning record, Georgia barely beat them.

What was going on in 1980? Did every other power just go to crap or was this a case of scheduling a National Title? Because going undefeated was everything back then compared to quality of opponents.

Notre Dame did Georgia the biggest service by playing them because that was their only real win all season that was respected.

I always find this "blue blood" topic interesting, because its like we always come up with some made up line of demarcation to when football is considered relevant. Like this topic, is the 1980s not considered modern age of football? Or is it some brand of football that isn't considered worthy? I for one think ANY title in ANY era is relevant.

Historic Bloods:

Ohio State
Alabama
Michigan
Notre Dame
USC
Nebraska
Oklahoma
Texas
Minnesota
Tennessee
Army
Yale
Harvard
Princeton

New Bloods:

Miami
Clemson
LSU
Florida
Florida St

Current Bloods:

Ohio State
Alabama
LSU
Clemson
Oklahoma

There is no historic.

There's Vanderbilt's and Rockefellers and everybody else.

Just if the Heat win a championship, doesn't make them the Lakers and Celtics.

Bluebloods is classic old money that has stood the test of time.

Not Johnny come latelies and not who has the most MNCs.

But who was consistently ranked in the Top 10 every year for most of the 20th Century.

At what point are these Johnny-come-lately types no longer new? I mean, LSU has been at this for about 20 years now. They’re probably the best example of ‘new blood’ that has been going strong for that long. There’s Clemson, but their run has been closer to 7-8 years.

If this continues for another 20 years, LSU definitely supplants the status of someone like Nebraska.

Ou has definitely had numerous opportunities to add to the trophy case
If they played and defense they might have another one
That defense LSU played in 03 bcs game was the ou defense I remember

It took a transcendent player for uga to win title in 1980
Back then it was more of my player is better than yours rather than schemes and playbook you see now

Those early years Stoops teams would hit you in the mouth and make you like it. I'm not sure when that team/program went soft but they need to get tough again.

Texas also falls into the fading Blue Blood conversation. Nick Saban could have changed that course

All 5 of our ooc games were major programs (A&M, Clemson, TCU, SCar, and Tech). It's not our fault they all decided to crap the bed in the same year. And the SEC itself was handling conference scheduling by then so blame them for UGA not playing second/third/fourth place.
Pitt finished #2 at 11-1. I guess they would've been MNC if we'd lost the Sugar but we ended up being the only undefeated team.
