probably has a lot to do with it snowing and being 27 degrees.

That’s really weak for an “up north” fan base that touts being able to handle the cold better than SEC schools lol

I actually love that they are having meaningful games not in primetime. Throwback to a simpler time.

Those are club seats with indoor seating areas

We have friends that paid the CFP prices of over $300 for average seats when they got released

If that’s the case 299 sounds like a steal

If Penn St. goes all the way to the championship they will go from Happy Valley to Phoenix to Miami to Atlanta. Even the die hard fans are going to have a hard time with the cost to go to those games.

They need to eliminate the “bowls” from the playoff and make it all home/away until the championship game like the NFL does.

There will be a lot of empty seats in the quarterfinals & semi-finals.

Alabama vs Penn State in Happy Valley would have been such a neat spectacle.

I’m pretty excited to watch SMU’s offense against PSU’s defense, though.

I think the quarters will be relatively well attended just due to holiday timing. That said, the fans of teams who qualify this weekend are behind the 8 ball if they want to go to those games. You have to think Oregon has already booked up the Rose Bowl.

Nobody is traveling to the semis unless they live close by.

I'm guessing Penn State fans don't want to attend a game in the cold for what they are assuming will be a blowout.

They should have advertised it as a white out game, and it would have sold out in minutes.

CFP game - pffft!
Chance to wear a white shirt/jacket like everyone else - I can barely control myself, must…have…tickets!

At least wit cheaper tickets some fans that don't get to go to a lot of games have a chance.

Now if the stadium is half empty at kickoff penn state is a joke

UT - Clemson tix are going for $95. That may be more surprising.

Great weather
Afternoon game
2 big brand names who’ve never played before
Large metro area

The playoffs are watering down demand. And fans are holding their $ until the championship, if their team makes it.

I’ll be curious to see prices for the peach bowl if Texas makes it. I can’t see a ton of demand from ASU and Texas to travel across country on New Years for a quarter final game.

Interesting. I can understand the PSU situation with students gone, remote location, cold, small school on the other side. That doesn't make sense for the Texas game, though.

A few things that are unique to PSU and not Notre Dame, OSU, or Univ of Texas for this weekend.
- about 60% of the fans for a PSU game drive up from Pittsburgh, Philly, or Baltimore/DC. A 2.5 - 4 hour drive for a good portion of the fans.
- very few hotels in State College, those that have rooms are getting $1600 per night for this weekend. SMU’s official alumni hotel is 90 minutes away in Harrisburg
- they dropped the student allotment from 25K to 15K, dumping about 10,000 seats that are normally student only onto the market. Probably about 60% of these have sold
- I’ve been going to games for 30 years, this will be the coldest game I’ve been to. With the cold and strong northwest winds, it will be treacherous driving to State College from the western part of the state with snow on I99 near Altoona. Not a factor durning the fall.
- Xmas weekend, a lot of folks are doing family stuff and can’t lose a whole day for the Penn State game.
- playing a small school with relatively few alumni (who punch WAY above their weight in $ support though)
I’m thinking the stadium will be 85-90% full. If the game was next weekend, tickets would probably be harder to get.

If we were playing Tennessee, I would imagine the UT fans would be trying to checkerboard the student section seats that were sold to the public.

Notre Dame - IU tickets going for over $600 for the cheapest. It’s two local teams, so that probably helps.

Freezing cold, students are on spring break, Happy Valley is in the middle of nowhere, it's the first round of four, people have Christmas travel plans and the closest city is Pittsbugh, which isn't really a destination city...

It makes perfect sense.
