Almost like goal of big time college sports is money!!!!

How has the state legislature not intervened? Public universities should not be able to sell off their athletic departments to investors.

Whittingham got out at the right time

You mean that you people are surprised that a university department is over bloated and featherbedded? And are complaining about it someone trying to fix it?

Over bloated and featherbedded athletic departments? Can you give some examples of what positions you would cut? What is over bloated in your opinion? Too many athletic trainers? Too many assistant coaches? Too many equipment and locker room guys? Too many in Sports Information and Media relations?
I'd like to see your list.
You want to go the Jack Welch route and automatically fire the lowest 10 percent of rated and ranked employees each year? Look at what General Election became.

Agreed… but in reality who else could afford or be willing to take the risk financially wise to keep some of these football programs competitive???…

Good. There’s tons of waste in public school/university administration and that includes athletics

The football coach resigned as soon as they announce the deal. The school said he was retiring, but took the Michigan job two months later.

Is it really that though? I’ve noticed Kyle Whittingham after making the move from Utah to UM football has made numerous statements that leads me to believe he is surprised about how much power, influence and money he is getting to work with at UM.
frick off

If the athletic department is losing money, how long should that be allowed to continue?
Maybe the people in financial control before the deal should have done some layoffs instead.

quote:you left out the part about some greedy individuals inside of the Utah system that signed the deal to let the PE group in.
Greedy investment fund with greedy investors took over Utah athletics and is cutting payroll.
Really fascinating. The University might have done this to trim the fat without having to worry about severance, etc while getting a guaranteed yearly payment and not having to manage the athletic department.
Of course PE wants to make a profit. They don’t hide that. But who let them into a public institution???

quote:The deal hasn’t been signed yet. The PE group has no control at this point. This is pre-signing restructuring the university is choosing to do to get the deal done
With the PE group terminating employees, it sure doesn’t look like the university is in control
When the announcement of PE involvement was made I couldn’t get why they would fund a minority investment in exchange for just revenue share without getting more operational influence as is the normal playbook. If they were just desperate for money that’s a deal a syndicate of mega rich boosters could have made directly and kept things more in-house
Now we know why. The university is giving them a cleaner slate to start. Complete and total whores

To be fair Im assuming ADs and colleges in general are all filled with positions that can easily be eliminated.
Probably, but I would prefer for local people to have jobs than all that money getting sucked out of the program to distant investors.

I bet you are really looking forward to AI taking over all the jobs.
