1-for last 12 and they act like he’s barry bonds.

All I can assume is that the word is out that Paul’s gonna be shut down when the Pirates are out of the wild card race.

Skenes -165
Merrill+125

Maybe you are right on the shutdown.

I checked after his Saturday start and he was still around -1000. After the Pirates lost yesterday and this morning is when odds started to favor Merrill.

Skenes had 122IP last yr at LSU. He had 29IP in the minors and is at 92IP in the majors.

I think it's more so due to him pitching on 4-5 days rest now between starts as opposed to the 6 days he had between every start

they have been trying to spread that out more and get him 6 days whenever possible. In fact of late I think he's done more of that than not.

9 more possible starts

Do you have dates/teams, or is this just based on the math?

ETA: Asking to see if he's gonna be anywhere close to me so I can check out tickets and my schedule for where I'll be

9 more possible starts based on 44 games left.

Just his next 2 starts listed per ESPN.

Skenes next start is Seattle on Friday. Hoping for a 6-7IP shutout. 9 more possible starts. I have a lot of money riding on Skenes for ROY.

Same. He needs to turn the tables in a BIG way Friday night.
Merrill is an absolute stud, and he’s going to take it if it’s there for the taking.

Merrill is an absolute monster and every bit of deserving of ROTY as Skenes, and I'm a massive LSU fan.

Showed up to training camp and found out he was being moved to CF, a position he had never played a day in his life. Has literally been the best CF in the NL (if not all of MLB) and an every day starter from day 1, plus made the all star game.

His attitude and approach toward the game are incredibly refreshing though. Team first and tells the media non stop to stop asking him about winning the ROTY, he only cares about winning a title and team accomplishments.

Pirates will fall out the wildcard race and shut him down in September. Probably doesn't help

Lololol there's absolutely 0% chance he wins MVP over Ohtani and Sale or Wheeler have the Cy Young locked up

That should be a get right spot. If he struggles against the Mariners then you start to worry.

The only reason they have it over Skenes is b/c of innings pitched.
If Sale were to get hurt, which isn't out of the realm of possibilities, Skenes has a legit shot to win the Cy Young, although with the innings Wheeler has pitched over Skenes he probably wins despite Skenes beating him in almost every stat.

Talking about shutting down Skenes b/c of innings pitched compared to last year.......
Sale is at 134 innings pitched this year.
He threw 109 last year.
He pitched 17 innings in 2022
He pitched 62 innings in 2021
He pitched 0 innings in 2020

You know you're a badass, when you're a rookie and these stats are considered a "slump"

That 3.16 ERA puts him at 21st in MLB for ERA post ASB.

At this point, I’ll be surprised if Skenes wins it. Pirate ship has capsized, I’m afraid there will be no survivors

I mean, I see nothing but facts here...

26 dumbasses downvoted facts...he hasn't been bad since the ASB, but his numbers are down, and he's on a bad team. If he's going to win ROY, he's damn near going to have to be perfect. If that shite team keeps it up, he may not win another game simply from lack of run support.

Does he have a chance at ROY with less than 10 wins?

Yes he can win ROY even if he doesn't win another game. Just maintain that 2.25 ERA and pitch the rest of the season (9 more starts). Top 1-2 ERA in the league would be a lock ROY.

If he pitches 6, then it might become iffy depending on if Merrill gets hot.

My guess is 7-8 starts. Just needs to limit it to 1-2 runs per start.
