The latest update on Athletics prospect Ryan Lasko is very concerning:

On Tuesday night, while playing for the Midland RockHounds, Lasko collided head-on with teammate Devin Taylor while both were diving for a fly ball in the outfield. He remained on the field for about 20 minutes before being carted off and transported to a hospital.

The Athletics announced Wednesday that:

Lasko suffered a fracture of the C6-C7 vertebrae in his neck.
He underwent emergency spinal decompression and stabilization surgery Tuesday night.
He is currently in stable condition.

The most troubling update came from the team's medical report:

Due to swelling around his spinal cord following surgery, Lasko currently does not have feeling in the lower half of his body.
Doctors are continuing to monitor him closely as the swelling subsides, and it is too early to determine his long-term prognosis.

Prayers to the young man indeed. Also better not start watching football if stuff like this scares you that bad.

I remember seeing 3 just in college football alone going to the hospital due to these horrible neck injuries last season. I'm not calling him weak. Some sports just aren't for everyone to watch Just like being a fireman, paramedic, etc isn't for everyone.

Same thing happened to one of my former players while in college. He dove head first and the CF slid. He broke his neck in the collision. Sad story all around.

Doesn’t CF have the ownership of the play?kind of ridiculous for two players to be making a play on the ball at the same time.

I feel so horrible for the guy. I hope he gets his feeling and mobility back.

Dude they both had to dive…..

You don’t call someone off until you know you can get it. This ball was hit into the perfect spot that the CF never had a moment to actually call it

Yes the CF takes charge but no one called it. It happens, just usually not such a brutal full dive into each other collision.
