that reporter on MSNBC doesn't seem real safe out there on the streets.

If it was anywhere but canada i would say neither are the americans.

US and Russia both have free passes to the quarterfinals. The winner of tonight's game with Finland and Sweden will also get a bye to the quarters. The 4th bye will either be the Sweden/Finland loser or the Czech Republic.

The Russians are nuts

Ove, Datsyuk, and Malkin

Datsyuk is the best two-way player in hockey that many people dont even realize

This game may have put Luongo in net for Canada. I would rather see him than Broduer.

The Toronto Sun will be a fun read tomorrow.

Luongo was in goal the first game they played i thought...Broduer just doesn't seem like the right choice with luongo and fleury on the bench.

I bet they feel stupid now. Pretty sure NBC thought it would be an easy win for Canada and thus the ratings would drop like a rock in the later parts of the game

Yeah, I think Luongo certainly will get the nod the rest of the way. Brodeur made some poor plays in this game. He's clearly the goat.

He was in goal for game 1. But the performance that Marty put on last time out he earned the start. I still would not want Brodeur in net against USA, he is capable of stealing a whole tournament. As much as I hate the Devils, he is the second greatest goalie I have seen, Saint Patrick being the best and Tretiyak (sp) being 3.

Sweden Vs. Finland - Who do we root for?

I'm thinking Sweden because Finland will get the #1 seed with a win (because of Goal diff.). After hearing you all speak, wouldn't it be best to be in the bracket opposite of #3 Russia and #6 Canada?

what does this win mean? we are in a medal round or something?

Didn't see anyone answer your question, LE, so sorry for the late response, but anyway...

This win means the US gets a bye to the quarters. There are 12 teams in the tournament. All 12 make it to the single elimination medal round (dumb). 5-12 have to play a first round game, 1-4 get byes. The US will be either 1 or 2, depending on the game tonight. This win got us a bye.

So, while it wasn't huge (i.e. we didn't need to win to advance), it allows for more rest, gives the team more confidence, and is just great for pride/bragging rights.

Sweden would probably be the better bet.

But the US can still get the #1 seed if Finland wins in OT - they would only get 2 points giving them 8 total.
