Johnson Bayou, South Cameron and Hackberry are barely holding on after the hurricanes. It’s going to be real hard for them all to stay open with enrollments dropping even though they’ve got some nice new schools.

don't speed

Speed trap has a specific legal definition. It's a sudden, sharp lower speed limit without enough warning for drivers to slow down.

We (U-High) played them in the Class A state finals in '74 and beat them 14-13 in a spirited game. Every inch was a battle, and that ND box was different. I hate to hear of their demise as a school.

One of the best small schools I saw play was Fenton. They had a big rivalry with Midland Mid 70's and early 80"s won state a couple of years made it to the top 20 several years in a row. Also had a good run in the early 90's. Then the school board member had the votes to shut it down. All of those athletes went to Lacassine and then made some real good runs but never won it. It is a shame these little schools get closed to consolidate. Bigger does not always mean better. It would be refreshing to see the school boards reduce their staffs and not take the gigantic salaries to do nothing. Wish Elon could do something to the Louisiana educational system.

Sounds like a classic.

That's the only offense without QB under center that I like.

EBR and NOLA schools say, damn, that's bad...

We weren’t positive about where the ball wa going, but we were right gut most of the time. They did have a dedicated qb who handled the ball most of the time. It was hard to defend.

Bump…

No more football at Tensas…

quote:

By a vote of 3-2, the Tensas Parish School Board decided tonight at their school board meeting to no longer offer football as a sport at their school. Citing a lack of players interested, Tensas will join Sicily Island as schools that have ended their football program in the past 18 months. Tensas will also become the only parish in the state that does not offer football in the LHSAA (Tensas Academy plays 8-man football in the MAIS division). In 2006, Tensas High School was established through the consolidation of three former high schools: Joseph Moore Davidson High School in St. Joseph, Newellton High School in Newellton, and Waterproof High School in Waterproof. Waterproof had a long history of playing football, finishing as state runner in 1935 and 1936 and winning the 1943 Class B state championship. Newellton also reached the title game back in 1941. Truly a sad day in Tensas Parish ??

Too bad that the LHSAA doesn't offer 6-man football as an option for the small schools. It's a big deal here in Texas and the state championship is played at Jerry's World just like the big schools.

A couple of years ago a school won the championship with enrollment of 34.
