Bedlam is like the Egg Bowl. It's a fun game even if you're not a fan of either school. They should play it because it will get decent ratings.

OK State is one of my alma maters.

Bedhlam isn't dead; it's just on hold. OK State had contracts in place for each of its out-of-conference games for several upcoming seasons and would have had to buy its way out of those contracts. OU wasn't willing to contribute to those costs.

Why should OK State be expected to foot the bill for OU's decision to leave the conference?

Once there are openings on our schedule, Bedlam will have room to return.

Despite the lopsidedness of the record, it was still a rivalry. Losing Texas from the schedule hurts, too. It just seems wrong not to have those games.

I look at the schedule and conference, now, and I just don't see the "big" game, nor any real potential for one.

Game is usually a glorious shite show, specially when it’s in Stillwater. I’m sad it’s gone.

Nobody I know would consider Okie State rivals with Houston or WVU. Of the ones you listed, MAYBE Texas Tech or Colorado. Historically, CU’s hatred goes to Nebraska.

Sorry but OU and Texas never belonged in the same league as the other Big12 guys. They were always just too big for that.

Wut? When the league was formed, OU was being coached by guys like Gary Gibbs, Howard Schnellenberger, and John Blake. They were dormant post-Switzer. Texas was just starting to get solid under Mackovic, but the 96 inaugural title win over Nebraska was viewed as a major upset. At the formation of the Big 12, the balance of power favored the North. Nebraska, Kansas State, and Colorado were damn good.

quote:

It’s had some cool moments over the past 25 years but generally speaking OU still dominated it

In the Big 12 Era, the rivalry was 20-8 in favor of OU. That’s a much better rate than they had prior. It’s actually produced some very entertaining games despite being as one-sided as it is.

No it’s not. It’s 91-20-7. How’d you even come up with that?

Why would LSU play a division 2 program like USL

Oklahoma - Oklahoma State and Texas - Texas A&M series are so lopsided there is no reason to play either of them anymore. Its pointless.

LSU is 22-0 vs Louisiana Lafayette.

I wish LSU would play Louisiana Tech and Louisiana Warhawks more.

Battle for the Rag 70–22–6 in favor of LSU. Tulane's last victory was in 1982.

Bedlam 91–20–7

LSU almost certainly wins the 20-something games they did not play in the last 30 years, and that looks just as one-sided as Oklahoma vs OSU.

BUT

Tulane wasn’t in a major conference for most of them… and if they win in 1998 and maybe 2021, nobody really cares

OU should. Soon to fall into the abyss like Nebraska. Sure, piles of $$ coming in, but football relevance will diminish quickly.

But you have the softball and gymnastics nattys, so you have that!

Think this is a bit of simplistic way to look at an in-state rivalry, in my opinion. It cuts further, beyond the field, and into the lives of many fans, including family, work, culture, etc. It's almost a 'bond' that many fans look forward to each season.

Though not 'in-state', Wisconsin/Minnesota have tuition reciprocity, which leads to a lot of students going between the two universities. Plus, a lot of people work in the other state, similar heritage, extended family, etc., so it leads to so much overlap - The actual game is so much more. Sure, there's a clean hate, but it's also a chance to get so many familiar faces in front of another. It's one of those games I look forward to each year, not just for the result but for the atmosphere.

doesn't seem like many OU fans feel this way as they do with Texas

Sure, that's a massive, massive rivalry - The two don't need to be mutually exclusive. For the most part, message board and social media fans like to ragebait and downplay shite for engagement Like most trophy games, though, there's an inherent interest when it comes to in-state teams.

And it seems like at least 5 of those OU wins were madness right around Halloween. This was almost always a must watch game, perfectly described by this meme
