WM is loaded too. Both of these teams could give any team in the country a good game.

They are by far the two best in LA

Na I was at both, SH was better team whole game, just couldn’t handle pressure. SH was much better coached too imo.

WM is talented as hell though, kids are huge, way bigger than barbe.

For Sulphur to win last night Jake had be Superman, not just on the mound but at the plate too. Sulphur defense was horrible and as mentioned, that started in warm ups. Jake was great but not Superman.

Honestly Vic was little shaken at first but settled in and pitched a gem and had great defense behind him.

Sam Houston is the Buffalo Bills of HS baseball. Feel really bad for the coach. They have had some loaded teams that couldn’t close the deal.

Last nights game was something special. Super high level baseball and an incredible atmosphere.
I don’t feel like Sulphur lost as much as Barbe won.
Yes- and we all said it when it happened- the missed foul pop hurt but LV was dominant after the 2nd and that defense was nails.
Just a great HS game

Ehhh. That’s what they said on the radio, but he was sliding to try and catch it. It was short.

yea the pop fly, ball was crushed off the bat a mile high, and when it got around apex, the wind(was already blowing pretty good) had a huge gust about 30mph and blew the ball way way in, CF was on dead sprint back to IF and slid and hit off glove

same thing happened on one of Bellards triples for barbe, ball kept carrying toward center field and further and further

same thing happened to st louis on the dropped ball by RF right on the line.

wind has been hell and killing some of the teams. Barbe and rummel handled it best. up to the 7th i would have said SH but they collapsed.

yea defense was a problem for sulphur, but didnt feel like it mattered. LV was almost perfect after the 2nd until the last couple batters, Donovan and courville and bellard were killing the ball and hitting Brown more than almost anyone ever has.

Everyone on here has said Barbe is overrated all year. I guess we will find out.

I guess 42-1 and giving up 43 runs in 43 games is overrated but whatever.
They weren’t even the number one seed

Barbe needed someone to step up and be the leader of the team and fill the hole guidry left in that respect. Couldnt be JC......but as LaSalle has come on, man him and Courville have complete control of that team now. 100% complete control.

if LaSalle says he is staying and hitting, all the starters stay and hit. if its cleaning time and he says JV cleans and starters hit....there is no bitching. Courville is the emotional leader along with LaSalle and both have taken complete control of the team and have them on a mission.

some of the other players on the team have stepped up too big time.

quote:

Yeah, I’m from LC and have followed the Barbe system for decades and this team has about 10 players that will play D1 ball

prolly more than that. This is one of their more talented teams. the young talent is insane right now. Sam houston and Barbe and St Louis right now all have pipelines feeding them and the young talent around LC is as strong as ever. Spread out a little across different travel teams, but it is as good or better than ever and shows no signs of falling off.

the freshman class for barbe is unreal. stupid good.

Yeah, I played back with the Joe Lawrence, Topham, 1992 LLWS teams and that started the Barbe dominance. Ever since it’s been a pipeline

I was actually thinking about that the other day. Barbe has tons of D1 talent every year but you never really hear from them after that. You would think a school putting out that many players would have multiple guys tearing it up for major college teams and eventually MLB.

I wonder what peoples theories are? I know Cecchini has been known to wear out arms and also have heard maybe they’ve peaked because they are usually older.

Sorry LCLa... the rules were adequately set the last time someone's spelling or grammar were questioned in this thread.

Sulphur. And I was paying pretty close attention to pre game as well. The SS and 3B alone missed 5-6 balls coming off the bat of the coach. I had a sense of what was about to happen and the defense reared its ugly head and extended innings and allowed extra base runners. I swear to god I thought I was watching my kids team because that’s all they do. But mine is 10 and not 5A baseball, top ranked in the country and they shouldn’t have been making those mistakes.

But again, Victorian was an animal after the 2nd. I walked over to SH/WM after that 4th and walked between both games. I think Sulphur had an idea that they weren’t hitting him last night and it showed in the field and their body language.

Has the defensive coach for Sulphur been fired yet? This is a sad state of affairs for my beloved Alma mater.

The streams are anywhere between 3 and 7 minutes behind from what I can tell. Yesterday there were finals being posted on social media with no outs yet recorded in the 7th.

i mean field conditions were not good for outfield. wind blowing really bad.

honestly, last 2 nights only barbe and Vanderbilt handled the conditions almost perfectly.

so if you gonna fire sulphurs, better get ready to fire a bunch more lol.

but last night was awesome. the amount of talent on the two fields was insane.

talking 6 lsu commits, 5-6 other P5 commits, 5-6 other D1 commits and prolly dozen more than will go on to play juco or lower level.

between the 36 players on the field between the two teams, prolly 25+ will play at the next level.

I dont keep up with HS baseball but I asked in another anchored thread but I will ask again here

In the Division 1 semis, you had 3 SWLA teams and Barbe is in the finals

Divsion 2 has Iowa in the finals

D3 had 2 teams in the semis

D4 has DeQuincy in the finals

D5 final is between Annacoco and Pitkin

Do public schools in SWLA just have that much better baseball?

Wind or not, the RF should have most definitely caught the ball Bellard hit for a 3B. That ball was up in the air way too long and he had plenty of time to get there. He just absolutely misplayed it. I still don’t know what he was looking at or doing.

I was having this discussion with parents from all three schools last night.

Barbe actually started this, but SLC baseball is a machine. They start training in tball and they don’t stop. And if I’m not mistaken, it’s the same training techniques that Barbe uses, so essentially they’re teaching them to play Barbe baseball starting very early.

Sulphur is starting to do that and St Louis is going to turn into what Barbe is now when they build on the south side of the city.

Sam Houston is…well, I’m still learning about Sam Houston. I don’t have many contacts here quite yet

DeQuincy is starting to do the same thing. All working together from very early. Kinder the same…I think that’s what most of these tourney ball “clubs” are there for. Training programs to make HS squads. Obviously not all will make them, but they do start filtering out by the time they’re 12-13. I think there’s some kind of affiliation with a lot of these teams that are then connected to the HS programs.

777 can clean that up for me a bit more. He knows a lot more than I do
