Vanderbilt is a private university, and is not open to public records requests. By being a member of the conference, the conference offices do not have to comply with public records requests. They're a shield.

The Big 10 schools make more money off of shared research than off of athletics. The ACC has added Pitt and syracuse, and are adding Notre Dame. If they added another academics-focused institution, they could try and duplicate what the Big 10 has been doing with shared research for years. It's not probable, but it's not impossible either.

This is good news. The ACC needed to be strengthened...the Big10 never felt right as a fit for the future and the Big East was DOA.

I guess in the negotiations they went from full membership to..."fine, we'll accept if you play 5 ACC teams a year" to ensure a big TV deal for the ACC.

5 ACC teams, USC, Navy, Stanford, Michigan State, Pitt, Purdue, Michigan.

You are retarded if you don't think FSU had a very good chance of appearing in.the national championship game this year if they go undefeated.

Not many schools can say that (see Tulane or Utah).

ACC Commish: "We will revisit TV contracts"

"This will enhance our TV partnerships...Games of value added"

"There is no need to add a 16th team to the league...it is illogical...causes imbalance in football"

"Football TV revenues: ACC keeps their revenue with ESPN and ND keeps theirs with NBC"

"Basketball TV revenues: ND will receive 1/15th for their participation"

"Bowl situation: Still discussing, but likely that ND will be one of multiple participants on the other side of the Orange Bowl"

"ND would keep any revenues they get from BCS games and the ACC would keep their revenues"

"ND will be a part of ACC bowl lineup, apart from BCS games"

"Notre Dame will have to be within one win of an eligible ACC team to get selected. If ACC team is 10-2, ND'd have to be 9-3 to jump it."

Swarbrick: "We'll discuss with BigEast about expediting move out of conference"

"This was a financially neutral decision"

how in the world does this help ACC football, which is what they need

I would have told ND to join for all or nothing, just stupid from the conference standpoint

and oh ND picking up some serious challenges with Duke and Wake and hell the other 9 teams in the ACC

what hot garbage

It helps with TV deals, aka exposure and money. And that will naturally help out the football.

Then ND wouldn't have joined. You could have this deal or no ND at all. It's obvious which one is better.

I like how you choose two of the worst teams. I could choose Clemson and Florida State - the two best teams - and make it sound hard. The reality is in the middle. And we're playing only 5 ACC teams a year.

BTW, if you're criticizing ND's scheduling, I suggest you look at this year's.

Ohh sure, they've got a shot.

being consistently overrated the last few years due to recruiting classes and the soft ACC schedule certainly has them in position.

two problems. Jimbo is still the coach. And they will frick it up along the way, just like they do every year, even with this cupcake schedule.

Sat, Sept 15 vs Wake Forest 12:00 PM ET
Sat, Sept 22 vs #11 Clemson 8:00 PM ET
Sat, Sept 29 @ South Florida
Sat, Oct 6 @ North Carolina State
Sat, Oct 13 vs Boston College
Sat, Oct 20 @ Miami (FL)
Sat, Oct 27 vs Duke
Thu, Nov 8 @ #13 Virginia Tech 7:30 PM ET
Sat, Nov 17 @ Maryland TBD
Sat, Nov 24 vs #18 Florida TBD

Different year, same story.

They may skim past Clemson. ESPN and all the media outlets will start crowning them already. Talking about their return to prominence and how the program is once again a powerhouse. then, they'll blow it against someone like South Florida or NCState. Then lose 1-2 other games they shouldn't and no one will even remember FSU being a top 5 team at the end of the season.

rinse and repeat. rinse and repeat.

one every 10 years. they get a big check and their arse beat. yay.

You are awfully obtuse and missing the point. The fact is the ACC CHAMP has a very good seat at the table. Which can only be said for 5 conferences right now.

ACC Football Coaches React to ND News

Boston College coach Frank Spaziani: “We play them every year anyway. I thought they were in the ACC, to be honest with you.”
Notre Dame joins ACC
Related content

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney: “It's exciting. It further secures this conference's strength of schedule moving forward as we get in playoff scenarios. I think it's a real positive for the ACC.”

Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher: “I had no idea. Three seconds before I picked this phone up, I received that information. They're a great university, and I guess we'll be glad to have them.”

Maryland coach Randy Edsall: “Personally, I wish they were all in for football … For the overall good of the league, it is a quality institution and a quality program.”

NC State coach Tom O'Brien: “Obviously, the ACC thinks it's good for us; so, it's good for us. That's my reaction.”

Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe: “All I can tell you is I think it brings a lot of respect to our conference to have Notre Dame affiliated. Our game last year with them was probably the most exciting environment and fun night we've had playing football. The problem is they're good.”

Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson: “Certainly Notre Dame is a storied program with a lot of rich history and tradition. I was fortunate at Navy, we played them every year. They're a class outfit. So, I think it'll be a positive for our league.”

North Carolina coach Larry Fedora: “Notre Dame matches up with us both on and off the field with the entire league. That's a great thing.”

Virginia coach Mike London: “From the standpoint of them, the team, the university, what it stands for will be a positive for the ACC.”

Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer: “I think it's great for the ACC and great for Notre Dame. I think both of us benefit.”

Duke coach David Cutcliffe: “I certainly think it can be good. It's a high-profile program. We all know that. National following, which we have some great programs in the Atlantic Coast Conference that have that type or similar following. It should end up being long-term a good fit. Notre Dame, I do know from being there, is an outstanding academic institution, falls in line with who we are in the Atlantic Coast Conference.”

Miami coach Al Golden: “It's great. First of all, they represent what we all represent in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Now, what we're really talking about is we have Boston, Pittsburgh, and New York City now with Pitt and Syracuse. We have all the Atlantic cities now, D.C., Baltimore, Richmond, Charlotte, all the way down now to Miami. Now, we're adding Notre Dame who has got national appeal even though they're not a full-time football member right now. Obviously, we'll have a scheduling coalition or whatever you want to call it. So, I think all of those things are really going to benefit our product here in the ACC."

I dont even understand what point you are trying to make. This season will come down to LSU or Alabama, I guess everyone else should just quit playing football???

FSU will most likely lose 2 or 3 games this year, but that doesnt take away the fact that if they were to go undefeated, they sure as shite would be in the ncg unless there were 4 or 5 other undefeated teams.

Sorry dude, the ACC hasnt been in the BCS national championship since in 10+ years, a time period where SEC, Big 12, PAC 12 and Big 10 have been represented. As College football meanders towards a 4 team playoff system, the natural progression is for there to be 4 conferences as opposed to 6. The big east is a joke, and the ACC is the next to dissolve. struggling to add ND halfway just makes it more pathetic.

b.c there are only now 5 bcs leagues with the BE now dead so you are 5 out of 5 and the bottom of the totem pole.

yes it strengthens all other sports other than football thing is football drives the bus

ND isn't going to be playing in the ACC title game all while having the ACC bowl tie ins and their own path to a BCS bowl.
