Now that the reb/bear/sharks have been dealt with...WHEN do the tar heels finally face the music, and what might all their penalties entail ?

You been under a rock? The ncaa never had any jurisdiction in the matter.
Their method of circumventing this was to leave the investigation open for a long time which created a cloud over the UNC athletic program which was like a faux-penalty.
The NCAA knew what they were doing.

Didn't they throw the WBB team under the bus and decide the MBB just happened to take a year off from cheating when they won the natty?

They did punish NC, they put Quiddich and Rowing team on 5 year ban.

There was never any "cheating". UNC offered incredibly easy or "bogus" courses for "student" athletes.
UNC met the NCAA standards for eligibility in all sports.
The problem at UNC was an accreditation issue more than an NCAA eligibility issue.
If UNC wants to give bullshite courses where the athletes don't learn anything then that's their prerogative. If the accreditation agency wants to revoke UNC's status as an accredited university because of those bogus courses then that's something else entirely outside of the NCAA reach.
The NCAA was investigating nothing essentially for years, and they knew it, but they probably felt like UNC deserved some punishment in some way so they kept the investigation open for several years.
If you pay attention to UNC basketball then you would know that the NCAA investigation worked exactly like they hoped it would.
Over Roy Williams first 8-9 years at UNC he got something like 26 McDonald's All-Americans.
Since the NCAA investigation opened he got like 1 McDonald's All-American.
Now that the investigation is "over", take a look at UNC Bball recruiting, its back to where it was for the most part.
Guys wouldn't even visit UNC because of the investigation. Brandon Ingram for the Lakers even said if UNC wasn't under investigation he probably would have ended up there (he's from Kinston, a well known UNC pipeline in North Carolina).

Guys, don't worry about Tickfaw. He was too busy scalping tickets on the Ticket Exchange to notice the results of the investigation.

I'm surprised this issue didn't get more national attention as well. The easy A courses were all in the African-American studies.
A big reason UNC got off without any punishment was because there was a 50/50 split of regular student to athlete ratio for these courses.
But here is my thing, why is no one upset that UNC basically said African-American studies are pointless and made them easy A courses. I was surprised no one called racist on this, given that UNC looks like they don't care about the subject matter.
Either way, most major universities have classes like these where student athletes are directed to take and they end up being easy A's.

Let's be honest here. I doubt a "European-American Studies" course (if there were such a thing) would be challenging, either.

The NCAA decided it would be more fair to give UNC a reacharound, but when it came time to do work, they chose not to frick them in the arse and instead just gave them a handy.
