Cowboys are nuts for offering $30mil.
Dak is nuts for turning it down.
Dak is nuts for turning it down.

Ehh he’s got some leverage. If they franchise him they’ll be paying that price tag anyway to keep him away from FA, and he’ll get that money if not more on the open market.
And these stories always leave out the actual point of contention in most of these contracts——guaranteed money. It’s easy to say he’s dumb for passing up 30 mil, but it’s more likely he’s leveraging the Kirk Cousins contract for more money guaranteed instead of taking a fake inflated contract number that’s way less than market value

Well Damn you’re right he should offer to take 15 mil a year just to be so thankful for them in that case
ETA again all the more reason to hold out for more guaranteed money. That 30 mil a year doesn’t mean shite if the team can cut you after year two for 10 mil

Rookie contracts are prove it deals. He has proved he is good enough to be a starting QB and vastly outperformed his rookie contract. When that happens, there should be some form of pay back for that service. Same thing happened with Russell Wilson. It's a factor..
But that doesn’t answer the question.
You’re essentially saying that a rookie who plays above his pay grade should get the pay that he would have gotten if everyone knew how good he was going to be.
The question is, should a top 5 pick who got $25 million guaranteed give any of it back if he plays like trash?
The answer should be no. Nobody is getting back pay and no one is getting money clawed back. Russell Wilson got a boatload of money because he’s awesome today, not because he was awesome 3 years ago.

Do you think that doesn't factor into negotiation on their next contract? If they way underperformed, they aren't going to get market value even if they are an average starter. They generally have to seek a contract somewhere else. If you want to keep a guy like Prescott, you are going to have to somewhat make it up to him and maybe overpay him a bit now. I believe that is fair. Otherwise, they need to let him go and get as much as he can somewhere else and not bitch about it when he does. But let's be honest, they are f'd without him this season. So they need to bite the bullet and do this..
Prescott is going to earn 2M this season. Kirk Cousins will get 27.5M. How is that fair?

No, no I don’t. I’ve never seen evidence of this happening and I’m not understanding why you believe it would....other than you believe it’s “fair”.

Of course they will. They’ll either get “average player market value” from their team or in FA. Where have you ever seen a highly drafted player who turned out to be average get less than market value for an average player simply because he wasn’t as great as everyone though coming out of college?

No they don’t. They need to pay him market. Nobody does this.

I’d wager that no one in the league is going to pay Dak Prescott $30MM a year.
Only the top five QBs are earning that much currently. Are we supposed to believe Dak is a top 5 QB?

Is it “fair” that Tom Brady is earning less than about 10 other QBs?
Is it “fair” that Matt Stafford went years as the highest paid QB?
Why is “fair” relevant here? Cousins played on a rookie deal just like everyone else has and just like Dak is doing currently. He didn’t get back pay.

Brady just signed a 2y/70M extension.

Cousins started 3 years and 2 of those years were on a franchise tag where is was extremely overpaid. He only played/started one season on his rookie deal.

Prescott's value is based off of the Wentz contract. Wentz signed for 32M+ a year. Prescott has way outperformed Wentz and they were in the same draft class, plus Wentz has already made 10X what Prescott has made. For Prescott to take less than Wentz would be stupid and shortsighted. Don't blame him for knowing the market and getting what he is worth..

I can confirm reports that QB Dak Prescott has, in fact, turned down 30M a year offer and is instead seeking 40M a year per source informed. #Cowboys

Dak is apparently seeking $40M/year.
There's just no way this is real.

I think the Cowboys should give him a 40 million per year contract.
Posted on 8/12/19 at 3:45 pm to brmark70816
Bruh, he isn’t half the QB that Wentz is....Dak is a borderline backup QB in the league. I can’t believe Dallas is even negotiating with him, it’s madness. I get all the intangibles and stuff, but the dude is not that good.

I would say, physically, that Wentz isn't half the QB Dak is.

PFT reporting the 40 mil number is false
