WTF? How can we compete with this?

We can't. This is why LSU fans don't like NIL.

Because we become relegated to a middle of the pack program while Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M, Ohio State, USC, Miami, etc, use their big booster money to secure the best classes.

No different than in the pros how they enforce the salary cap.A letter of intent was basically an unpaid internship that you signed, people do it all the time. The easiest way they could have done this was leave it all the same and do a profit share amount for all the players.Maybe it would be $50k a year, maybe it would be 100k a year who knows the number but there could be a number and each scholarship player gets that amount.I promise you any person that has a job generates way more income for their company than they are compensated for so don’t give me the old “The School Makes Millions Off These Kids” spill.Every company makes millions,so what.Don’t like it don’t play, nobody forcing anybody to do anything against their will

But Bruce Pearl and Will Wade are evil and should be punished! The NCAA is a damn joke.

Some college players will be making more than many NFL players.

College football is screwed.

That kid did not get paid that much. I don’t believe those numbers are even close to accurate. LSU will be fine

Yeah in the pros there’s a cap on how much you can make salary wise but you can get paid as much as you want in sponsorship. That’s basically Wht Nil is

I wonder if kickers will ever get paid real money. I know many of them sign small deals, but that’s not offered during recruiting.

This is sponsorship to attend a certain school not near the same thing. You can’t have this and college football you can either have semi pro and get rid of college football or college football with rules. You cannot have both which is why college football is going to slowly die

Yeah, but Nike isn't telling players that they'll give them a huge endorsement deal, but only if they sign with a particular team.

Ohio State landed the top two receivers for 2023 in the country last week. Last month they landed the top overall composite prospect in the 2024 class. There was zero mention of NIL,

If these rumors of big money NIL deals prior to enrolling are true they are desperation moves by boosters of programs who have slid into irrelevance. The programs that compete for championships and that put the most players in the NFL with the biggest contracts isn't going to change.

Would you rather go for short term money in college or play for the guy that developed the Bosas and Chase Young which has lead to the contracts they got?

Long term vs short term. It really isn't that hard of a sell. They still get NIL deals once on campus. It's just not out there from some loud mouthed attorney tooting his own horn. BTW, apparently he's lying.

The "student" part of student-athlete is really going to be challenging in this NIL landscape. Imagine being a booster/donor "sponsoring" one of these NIL deals and the kid becomes ineligible due to grades.

If the "contract" doesn't have clauses to protect the payer if certain events occur then I question the intelligence of the person(s) writing the checks.

We've all been saying NIL is getting out of hand. This is another level of ridiculousness. I hope to enjoy the season this year. My confidence is low for what is about to come afterward.

I'm ready to see this horseshite collapse on itself. Time for college athletics to actually be about college athletics again instead of a bunch of hired guns who don't give a shite about the team they're playing for. If that means every roster in the SEC looks like Mount Union, then so be it.

It's terrible.

Teams with the most money and support are going to win the most games. Holy shite!

20 year old athletes are going to have a chance to make as much money as 20 year old actors, singers, and social media stars. Holy shite!

Miami Hurricanes QB commit Jaden Rashada signs $9.5 million NIL deal

What I find fascinating, is that when an NFL team drafts a player in the first few rounds (and in the 1st Round especially, obviously) there is tremendous pressure on the GM and coach to make those highly drafted players successful, making it even harder for low-rounders and UDFAs to make the team, because the evaluations are not an even playing field.

But unless the college HC and the school get a cut of the action, I don't see that a big NIL deal puts any additional pressure on them to make sure these guys are successful. The QB position is hard to judge on who will be successful stepping up from high school to college (although it's not nearly the leap from college to NFL). So a big NIL deal for a high school QB is a huge risk. That player may never even see the field.

According to my quick internet research, 41 active roster players made the league minimum in 2021. And most NFL players don't make it past year 3 to see their minimums jump. I'm assuming that doesn't count practice squad, but I'm not sure.
